Looking for some speakers (£150)

Thread Starter
Hey guys I desperately need some decent speakers, I've been living for these bad headphones for ages now and have been looking for some speakers for ages. The only problem is that I really don't understand what makes good speakers good, so I came here for some help

I've had my eye on the M-Audio AV40s for ages now, I've only heard good things about them but I'm a little concerned about the lack of bass (being 2.0 with no sub). I heard you can add a sub no problem, so things like this where I could add on later to make it better I like.

I also have the X-Fi XtremeMusic sound card, if that changes anything (would this handle any speakers in this range fine?)

SHORT: What speakers would you buy for no more than £150

Thanks, looking to order as soon as possible, I can't even watch videos or listen to music without wearing this stupid headset.

EDIT: OOPS, I posted this in the wrong section. I'd appreciate it if someone moved it to Sound Cards and Computer Audio

Don't have time atm to make a proper post about this so I'll leave it to someone else. But about your concern for the lack of bass, I really wouldn't worry about it, each speaker has a 4" woofer. And in a small room it'd work out quite nice. The AV40's also have a bass boost switch.

Yeah, would it be easy enough to add a sub to those speakers if I wanted or would that not be worth it? And how much are we talking to add a decent sub for those speakers if I decided I wanted to?

Cheers

Ordered some AV40s myself and they should be here by Thursday, looks like a good buy, but someone on OCN recently has had problems with their amp .

Hmm, you got a link to the thread where they had problems? I'll give it a quick read.

If nobody else says anything in the next hour or so, I'll just order the AV40s. Is advancedmp3players a legit site? It seems so from the reviews on google shopping, but there are a few 1 stars saying bad customer service and item never turned up but I guess every site has a few of those.

Cheers

All I want is some decent speakers for no more than £150. How hard can it be?

Definitely consider these:

http://overclockers.co.uk/showproduc...odid=SP-000-AE (£124)

They are made by a well known Hi-Fi company who make speakers, not computer peripherals etc.
