Correction: You have the 2nd best GRADUATE program. And any state school has a party scene. As an undergrad you will be doomed to teachers aids and new hires... that is once you get past your first years of just general education classes. Trust me, I went to high school in Illinois and have tons of friends that went to U of I for engineering. I have learned so much more than they have from my private school than that have that sometimes I like I am talking to a little kid about computers.

I remember reading somewhere (over the summer i believe), that the graphene transistors created in a lab operated at roughly 100ghz. That is, 1 transistor operated at 100ghz. Once you bunch them together, the speed is greatly reduced. I'll try to find the article but no promises.

Graphene and silicon just do not belong in the same sentence together. When we start using graphene isolates as transistors in our cpu's, the speeds will be upwards of 100GHz no joke. Graphene is an excellent conductor, runs very cool, and is about 200x stronger than steel.

It is my understanding that microprocessors are multi layered but not three dimensional. And the silicon itself isn't layered as much as the copper, etching ect are layered on top of it. Maybe someone who knows more about it could explain further. With a 3d chip, in theory, you could stack transistiors on top of eachother and wire them together vertically as well as horizontally.

If graphine can convert heat directly into electricity, isn't that newsworthy in itself? I wonder how much efficiency it could add to solar panels by sucking up their waste heat?

It seems like if you added external heat sources to a running graphine CPU, it would convert some of that heat into current and throw off calculations.

but the problem today is the cost to produce so little graphene .... otherwise theyd have so many applications out allready
