HIS 6950 2GB vs Sapphire 6950 1GB

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

Gonna be building my new rig soon. I've narrowed pretty much everything but the GPU down. Can't put my hand down on one. I've been told go 2 GB, and then told go 1 GB. It is to my understanding that they perform the same, the 2GB operating better at higher resolutions and in xfire setups.

I'm currently digging up reviews for these:
HIS H695F2G2M Radeon HD 6950 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity
SAPPHIRE 100312-1GSR Radeon HD 6950 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity

I don't see myself going CrossFire in the near future, or possibly even at all. It all comes down to if I want an unlockable card, but also taking into consideration reliability.

I'm leaning towards the Sapphire. Which card is cooler (temp) and is more reliable and lasts longer?

Thanks.

------
EDIT: I have also considered the XFX 6950 1 GB and PowerColor 6950 1GB. How are these?

I'd trust Sapphire over HIS any day. As far as 1GB vs 2 GB, I understand that there's little functional difference:

2GB can be helpful at very high res or LARGE AA amounts. Other than that the only thing to consider is that iirc the 1GB version cannot unlock where the 2GB should be able to

This and with eyefinity. Also, I'd bet the 2gb card will have much better resale value down the road.

Go for the 2gb version and unlock it. Get the most out of your money I would say.

2GB version for sure. The 1GB will not unlock as others have mentioned. You're getting a 6970 for 100-150 dollars less.

6950 2gb is a much better value since u can unlock to a 6970. Also u can add another monitor later and the 2gb of vram will be able to handle it just fine.

The 2GB will unlock the 1GB may or may not. So go for the 2GB card. I'd pay the $10 extra for a chance to get a 6970 and more vram.
