getting ram stable?

Thread Starter
I'm trying to get my RAM stable and can't seem to get it right. I keep raising my QPI/VTT but it doesn't seem to help much. I keep getting the rounding error in Prime95 at different times. When I had the ram underclocked it ran fine when I was testing for CPU stability. But now that I'm trying to put it back to stock 2133 9-10-9-27 @ 1.5v it doesn't seem to like anything. I'm already running 1.525 on the ram and I'm kinda scared to put it to 1.54 which is the next setting in BIOS. So should I keep raising the VTT or add more DRAM voltage? My current VTT is set at 1.140. If the ram simply wont be stable at stock speeds will it make a big impact on performance at 1866 9-9-9-27 which is where it was at without VTT overvolt or ram overvolt. I paid a lot of cash for this ram so I'm trying to make it work like it's supposed to.

You need to increase your VTT some. Try 1.2v and see how you do.

Will it hurt anything to bump the RAM voltage up to 1.54 even though it's rated 1.5v?

I dropped my VTT back down to 1.1v and raised the RAM volt to 1.54 and I haven't gotten the error yet but it's only been running for 30min. I tried a higher VTT but no luck, it took the longest to give me an error at 1.1 VTT so that's what I'm sticking with I guess.

I'll post back up in couple hours because it seems to throw the rounding error on 1.1VTT at a constant 2hr - 2hr 30min mark.

why would it? i run mine at 1.6V daily and had it as high as 2.1V.
and from what i hear SB doesn't care what you set the vdimm to.

I've also heard that SB doesn't like anything over 1.575v on the ram. I'm just trying to play it safe, I've put way too much money into this thing to see it die in a year or two.

Just don't go over specified voltages that manufacturers recommends , if it's rated at 1.65 for the ram you would be fine by putting it on that voltage.
if you have 4 sticks of ram
try increase QPI/VTT(or VCCIO on asus board) to 1.2V
this would help you a lot to OC 2600k

Tried 1.2 VTT but still got errors. Think this ram just needs more juice. 2hrs of Prime95 and so far so good at 1.54v. After about 12hrs of prime I'll run memtest86 an post results.

Tried 1.54 and failed at the 4hr 46min mark. Tried again with 1.54v and 1.2 VTT and failed at the 3hr 58min mark. I'm starting to think I might have bad sticks. I'm going to try memtest and different configurations to see if it's bad or if my mother board just doesn't like it.

I also returned the CPU to stock settings while testing and it didn't help.

Had to knock it down to 1866 but tightened the timings to 8-9-8-24 so I'm happy with it. And I'm running at stock 1.05 VTT and 1.5v on the ram.
