Wanting to upgrade ram

Thread Starter
Hi everyone,

Now I'm still a fairly big noob when it comes to the hardware side of computers. I'm looking to upgrade my ram for my 3D rendering and I've found a couple of options which I think I could go for.

Firstly, another 6gb of the same ram I have at the moment

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/6gb%2...-connector165v

Then there is this, I would get this twice for 24gb total, but it runs at a lower clock, and slightly higher timings

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/12gb-...-9-24-xmp-150v

Now the thing I'm not sure about is whether my rig will be able to handle either of these? 12gb of the dominator 2000mhz, or 24gb of the vengeance 1600.

Any help on the issue will be much appreciated.

Cheers

p.s. nothing is overclocked, all at stock speeds

By "handle" do you mean, "is compatible with"? Not sure I follow.

Yeah compatible with (sorry should have made that clearer), and also I remember someone saying about my processor might struggle with too much ram.

There is 6 ram slots in the mb so there is room for it

Um...your processor "struggling" with ram, huh. Now, the memory controller on the i7 is known to be a bit touchy when overclocking and running 6 sticks, although I've got your CPU/MB and i'm OC'ing 12GB with no effort at all.

I know for a fact 12 is a go for launch. I've never run something as high as 24GB, but your i7 not being able to "handle" it? I'd like to see verifiable sources on that opinion.
