Bad pin on my Maximus IV extreme

Thread Starter
Well ChiefValue called me today and said the cpu pins are damaged and its not under warranty, so they are mailing it back to me,
My question is I read somewhere via google, that asus will fix busted cpu sockets for around 50.00
I dont want a damn $400 paperweight, the wife will kill me,
It wasnt done by me as far as I can tell.
I do know the cpu cover was a ***** to pull off, it was like it was glued on, and me having big hands, played hell pullin it off, so not sure if the cover did it or it was done before me.

Anyone knopw if their is a way to get it fixed?
If I have to buy another board and ebay this one, my wifes gonna kill me for wasting cash.
Thx

How are the pins damaged? are they just bent? If so, use a mechanical pencil with metal tip (no lead in it) and use it to bend the pins back into shape carefully

It depends on how damaged they are. its if just bent, it can be bent back.

But if some are broke you might be in some trouble.

Wait. Where did you buy the board? If it was new and you have the proof of purchase, you HAVE THE RIGHT to get a replacement.

dude you should ALWAYS take pics before you ship, some of those RMA guys toss your hardware around like a football then stick you with the bill when they f it up. I would RMA to asus and pay them, they usually replace the whole socket.

First id try to fix it yourself tho. If its a VCC or ground pin you might be fine.

Got it From ChiefValue, and they called me to tell me that it was physical damage and that they wont warranty it.
I told them I didnt do it, but ya know how that goes.
So basiclly newegg/chiefvalue screwed me over.
It was shipped to me in a newegg box and it was rma'ed to neweggs office.
When they send it back gonna check the pins closely and see whats exactly wrong, then maybe try to contact asus for some repair help.

ASUS is pulling the same crap for me, I have been using my mobo for a year, it fails, I send it in and the replacement has a bent pin, they are told me to get over it, and now they are ignoring me, so much for the ROG warrenty...
I'm using a Maximus III.

Just contact the credit card company and have them reverse the charges.
Claim that you were shipped defective merchandise and the company is claiming that you damaged it.

You're almost guaranteed to get your money back if the banks get involved. You just have to go the distance.

You DID pay with a credit card, didn't you?
BTW you may want to give newegg a call and ask to speak to a supervisor.

And as for @Asus:
Contact the credit card company.

I went out and just got a new maximus from Central Computers, they have 2 in stock at their Sunnyvale store, and when chief sends my board back gonna send it to asus to see if they will warranty it, if not then will just pay to have it fixed, they say they fix the busted pins for a charge, then will just resell the board at a slight loss.
Not sure if my CC will stop it, mainly because Chase sux when ya try to deal with them.

But guaranteed next weekend my MID LIFE CRISIS will be up and fully running.
And thanx for the the tips and advice.
Too bad costco didnt carry them, then I couldnt returned it with no probs.
