Need some mentoring on OC'ing my 1090T on a Asus Crosshair IV Formula board. - Page 2

Just OC with the unlocked multi
Don't expect to go anywhere trying to overclock the ref clock, due to that RAM

here you go. Your RAM might be the prob here. Change step 7 to match your ram speed or lower.

1. you need to get into your bios and head towards 'AI tweaker'
2. AI Overclock tuner - Set to manual
3. set you CPU multiplier to 14.
4. AMD turbo core - set to disabled. you want all cores at the same speed
5. CPU Bus frequency - set to 286. multiplied by 14 will give you 4ghz.
6. PCI-E frequency - set to 100
7. Set your DRAM frequency to 1525. you have 1600 but you only want to overclock your cpu for the time being.
8. set your CPU voltage to 1.45v
9. DRAM voltage to 1.65v

Not too sure he can get his 1333 sticks to 1600 :/

I agree with xd though, just OC with multi since OP has BE chip.

max temp for the CPU is 75C that like dam hot so make sure you dont go near that temp
idle temp for the CPU should be around 38C @ 4.0GHz CPU

as for the Core temp make sure you dont go pass or near 62C
idle temp for the Core should be around 24C@ 4.0GHz CPU

and for the NB temp it can go up to MAX MAX 80C, my NB temp dont go above 50C on load
idle temp for the NB should be around 40C @ 3.0GHz @ CPU/NB

finally if you want to reach 4.0GHz check out my settings :-
Vcore =1.365625V @ 4.0GHz
HT = 2.0GHz Voltage set @ auto
CPU/NB = 3GHz Voltage set @ 1.45000V

good luck

Hey, guys...

Thanks for all the advice so far.

I'm beginning to think my RAM is in fact the problem here, although I could be wrong...

I've tried a lot of your suggestions: Just using the multi and even using multi + FSB and, for the life of me, I can't get anything stable.

Why is it if I let AI Overclock adjust my settings, it's standard 3.7GHZ clock works with my ram being downclocked below 1066 for a seemingly stable Prime95 run?

I've read about my RAM having trouble in AM3 boards. During installation & setup, it was acknowledged as 1066.

I've manually set it to 1333 with the appropriate timings like I've heard other people do, but for some reason this either results in instabilities or higher temps on my CPU. (then when I leave it as 1066)

It's really frustrating.

Edit: Well, seeing as how this RAM isn't properly supported by my board and vice versa, can any one recommend a much better substitute?

If I'm gonna experiment, I might as well do it with the appropriate hardware.

i dont understand why would changing the RAM frequency cause the CPU temp to be high ?
the two things are not related

did u try set the RAM frequency to 1333 @ 1.65V and leave the timing @ default

I honestly couldn't tell you.

Temperatures could be unrelated and may just be a result of me switching between different settings & voltages, but it's something I've noticed whenever I go from 1066 to 1333 and vice versa.

I'll test all your settings now and update.

Edit: Before I forget, could high ambient & load temps on my cpu & NB be an adverse effect of poor ventilation in my situation? I have two 6970s that run pretty hot, but I like to think my case (Corsair Graphite 600t) is well ventilated.

try this
if my settings didnt work for you do the following

reset the COMS and try raising one thing at time.
for example start with the CPU frequency set it @ 3.6GHz and up the voltage to 1.38V, if the system post try raising the frequency to 3.7GHz and so on.
if you reach 4.0GHz and its stable start with the RAM and then CPU/NB.
make sure all your voltages are @ minimum for lower temps

I could boot into windows, but I couldn't get Prime95 to complete one test before crashing.

The problem is I have no idea what frequency or timings to set my ram to because the reference numbers either don't work for me or only work for a while.

I did some research and poking around the Patriot forums and found other users who have had similar problems with my ram, but it seems to work perfectly fine when I let AI Overclock auto-tune every thing.

Every thing is stable in Prime95 with these settings:

CPU Freq.: 3724.5MHz
Multi.: x16.0
FSB: 232.8MHz

Speed of my RAM in bios is currently 931MHz (wth?) with these timings: 6-6-6-18-21 (>_<)

To put it quite simply, if I deviate from this... I now run into instabilities.

Speed & timings I've tried:

1333MHz (7-7-7-24 @ 1.65v, unstable Prime95)
1333MHz (9-9-9-24 @ 1.55v & 1.65v, unstable Prime95)
1066MHz (7-7-7-18 @ 1.55v & 1.65v, unstable Prime95)

1333MHz, 9-9-9-24 @ 1.65v & 1066MHz, 7-7-7-18 @ 1.65v was working last night for me, but doesn't want to work today...

I am unable to get a stable Prime95 with anything but what AI sets my system to. :-[

Other than that, I think every thing else is fine... it's just my RAM that is killing my tests.

Any insight?
