Need some mentoring on OC'ing my 1090T on a Asus Crosshair IV Formula board. - Page 3

ok try 1333MHz @ 9-9-9-24 @ 1.7V
and what is your CPU/NB Frequency and voltage ?
and what is your CPU voltage?
and is HT @ 2GHz ?
download memtest and check for errors in your RAM

Booted into Windows, but crashed immediately on the first Prime95 test.

CPU-NB Freq.: 3GHz
CPU-NB: 1.45
vCore: 1.45
HT: 2GHz
HT Volt.: Auto

DRAM: 1333MHz (9-9-9-24 @ 1.7v)
ok try this
make the CPU/NB Frequency @ 2.6GHz and leave the voltage to 1.45V
and did u download Memtest ?
you can check if your RAM is working correctly by Memtest, if you get errors then say bye bye to your RAM

just try Memtest first and dont run Prim95 until you run Memtest

and one more thing, when you run Prime95 do u get BSOD or your System just freze till you restart it ?
and if you get BSOD what is the error code ?

Ran memtest and my memory checked out ok.

I also have some more good news!

I noticed after my recent restart that my ram voltage was still set to 1.65, so I readjusted it to 1.7.

I also increased my NB voltage to 1.46, closer to where I had seen others put theres with a 3GHz+ NB frequency and my system seems ace so far.

Been running Prime95 for 15 minutes and no lock ups, errors or warnings.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks for necking it out with me. I'll keep you posted.

Edit: My system would freeze until restart. No BSOD. I thought that was weird. (THIS WAS BEFORE, every thing seems fine atm)

thats great
good luck
can you post your final frequency and voltages for all CPU - CPU/NB - RAM and timing and temps

Ran my last setup for a half hour without a hitch, so I decided to go back in and lower voltages a bit.

I am 25 minutes into my next Prime95 without any errors with these settings:

CPU Freq.: 4000MHz
vCore: 1.39v
CPU-NB Freq.: 3GHz
CPU-NB: 1.46v
HT Freq.: 2GHz

Both CPU & CPU-NB LLC are set to 100%

RAM speed is set to 1333MHz, 9-9-9-24 @ 1.7v.

CPU temps at full load are hovering between 54c & 55c.

For some reason I am no longer able to accurately monitor NB temps in CPUID HW, but this seems to be a recurring problem for me... sometimes it shows, sometimes it doesn't.

Any one know of better monitoring software?

For that board grab Probe It or w.e. its called off the Asus website, should also be on the install disk. It reads the NB temp all the time.

All right, so I'm a little confused after reading more recent posts...

Should I be trusting my temps in CPUID HW @ their current readings:

CPU: 54c-57c (full load)
Cores: 44c-47c (full load)

As I am seeing users post that real temperatures are 10c-12c hotter than what monitors read??

Are these temps too close to the cap to be considered safe?

My 4GHz OC isn't stable in Prime95 under 1.39v and my CPU-NB voltage has to be at or above 1.46v to achieve 3GHz, but if the temps are much closer to 62c than I originally thought, then I am running too hot... even if Prime95 is calling it stable... or am I wrong?

Edit: Those are my readings without the 10c-12c deficit I have been reading about.

With stock settings @ 3.2 GHz, ambient temps on cores gets down to 12c-13c and CPU temps are registering between 23-27c.

Max load yields between 24-27c on Cores & 36-40c on the CPU.

Does this seem unusual for my cooler?

ok try 1333MHz @ 9-9-9-24 @ 1.7V
I don't approve of this decision
If you seriously do need 1.7V for 1333 CL9, return or RMA the RAM.
I'm pretty sure the stock rating is 1333 CL9 @ 1.65V though... still way beyond acceptable, you should never need more than 1.5V for generic speeds/timings
