560 ti SLI + 9600 gt physx

Thread Starter
i'm thinking of making 9600gt as a dedicated physx to 560 ti sli setup. will the 9600gt bottleneck my sli?

Probably won't benefit much, if any, at all. There are PhysX benchtests or Mafia 2 demo has a built in benchmark you can test with 9600 as PhysX and then without.

Probably. It won't hurt to test it of course, but a 9600gt has 64 cuda cores compared to the 384 on each 560. They should be significantly faster on their own.

so i should enabled physx on the 560 ti sli setup?

Yea I would stick with the 560's for physx. I know that 9600 would bottleneck them.

how would it bottleneck them? wouldnt the 9600gt be taking away some of the load for physx from the 560?

The PhysX processing power of the 9800 GT is inferior to the PhysX processing power of the 560, so it would be a bottleneck. The 560 can do everything faster by itself rather than being forced to use the 9600 GT. It would be like physically modifying the 560 so that you end up noticeably reducing its PhysX processing power.

Exactly. By enabling the 9600 for physx you aren't simply putting some of the load on the 9600, you are forcing the 9600 to calculate ALL the physx. And a 9600 for dedicated physx will get you about 30 fps in metro I can tell you that from experience. I am sure its much worse in mafiaII. So stick with the much more powerful 560's.
Actually, 100% of the PhysX processing is always dedicated to whatever you dedicate it to. That's why using a 9600 GT will result in worse performance than you'd otherwise get with just the GTX 560 doing everything.

However, you could use a GTS 250, or a GTX 260.

Well, atleast in Mafia 2, I can tell you personally a GTX260 core 216 will benefit as PhysX to a single GTX560.
