Wait what?? GamingPC vs PC+Console price? - Page 11

What I don't get is people who buy 1k+ laptops/oem pcs who still think gaming pcs are too expensive.

This is why you have so many console gamers. Also, they don't have to build their setup.

Edit: oh i did not see this thread had about 10 pages lol.

Oh wait but PC is a must have item in a household, so you only need a $50 GPU. /fail

There's $50 GPUs that run todays games at the same capacity as todays consoles?

That's basically £30 in the UK. You'll be playing the lottery with secondhand GPUs at that price range.

yes. there are plenty of GPUs for $50 brand new that will handle PC games at console settings, ie no AF, no AA, 720p, dx9, turn texture filtering from high quality to high performance, same goes for mip map quality.

That doesnt take much power at all. If newegg and other sites werent blocked at work, i would make a list for you.

1080p is more than twice the pixel density of 720p. Hell, most console games still dont run a proper 720.

To bad I reformatted recently or I could post the bookmark I had of every console game and it's resolution. Most were just upscaled with bad settings :/

No AA is not a console setting across the board. Many console games feature AA. The above link proves it. So to match up with the consoles you would want a card capable of rendering games 720p with 4xAA at a minimum, and actually look just as good if not better.

UHHH. read the list, most use no AA, and some use 2xAA, and a relatively minute amount use 4x.

Which is still not hard to pull off.

I went through the list. Most isn't all. Most (at least for the PS3, I really couldn't be bothered to go through the Xbox 360 list aswell though at a glance it seems pretty similar) was just over half of the overall library shown.

The way you use your words overly exaggerates that consoles dont use AA. As if they don't use AA at all. This is simply not true.

The truth is consoles can use AA. It is up to the developer to implement it and optimise it into the game. There are games capable of 4xAA at 720p. Alot of games that do use AA only need to use 2xAA or use custom AA or some form of edge filtering to achieve the desired effect.

So to be as good as a console you need to run your PC the same yes? Otherwise what's the point in buying something that only just manages to run on a par or below par?

I want to see a stock £30 ($50, whatever) graphic card run Crysis 2, Bad Company 2, and some of the other really good looking games on the Xbox 360, and look as good, if not better than the Xbox 360 version without sacrificing performance. I just don't see that happening (though that would be pretty damn cool).

Keeping in mind they cost over $50 + shipping fees aswell.

They also tested them with an i7 965 at near 4ghz, eVGA X58, 6gb of RAM at 1500mhz, and a 1200w PSU, which is hardly going to be cheap. We're talking about an everyday joes PC that they have in their living room and slapping a $50 GPU into it, not a system where everything else will make up for where the GPU lacks.
