XBOX= $300

$300 Computer + 9800GT= $350 to $390 setup. That costs more.
$300 Computer + 9800GT + mouse + keyboard = $365 to $405 setup.

Also, XBOX can be had for $200, it's called the arcade edition or something.

Okay, okay...apparently you can't hire anyone to stroke your gibblets for you, so I'll throw you out a freebie.

First of all, it isn't about who's the better man here. If I wanted to engage that, I'd say let's flash bank summaries.

Now I'm not such a prideful person, so much that I can't admit when I'm wrong at the very least. But if you think, for one second that your idiotic and disrespectful reply welcomed a recant, then I think you may find it with in your best interest to stop all funds going to gaming and take a course in human behavior and social interaction, cause you have much to learn.

But here, let me offer you this olive branch and let bygones be bygones. I apologize for having misinterpreted your original post but I still stand by you being a schmuck.

My Xbox = £179.99
My PC = £2000.00

This is why you have so many console gamers. Also, they don't have to build their setup.

Edit: oh i did not see this thread had about 10 pages lol.

you don't need ~$4k to build a pc that can max out games at 1080p.

and what im comparing is the price of overall functionality and comparing how much a pc you can build at the same price point of a console + home pc. a pc is much more versatile and can do mostly everything.

this is how im thinking about it. a custom built pc vs xbox and a home pc by a manufacturer.

if you take the cost of the xbox and the home pc together, you would be able to buy a pc that can do everything the xbox and home pc can, but much faster. because really, paying for another set of hardware just to do 1 more thing isnt really cost effective.

please everyone, dont compare peripherals since every system needs a monitor/tv to play on, a chair/sofa to sit/lie on, controller/mouse+kb to play on, etc. theres a reason why i left that out of the comparison.

You don't need an xbox or a pc, it is a want. If I wanted to put glass shards in my eyes while I game though, I would get an xbox. Or play crysis 2.

this is getting way off topic. im comparing the price of a cutom built pc against a console + home pc. its not a need or a want that i am arguing about

This.

Assuming someone is smart enough to research PC parts for cheap prices to build a proper gaming rig, they'd also be smart enough to buy cheap consoles and games, etc.

So in that respect both cancel each other out substantially.

The PC market is smaller than the console market because games are easier to develop for consoles with set hardware, and there's more money to be made in the console industry because consoles are a cheaper short term investment.

For alot of people (and if you weigh in just how many people own consoles it's a staggering figure) graphics on current generation consoles are more than good enough. They don't need a high end gaming rig to play their games on. It's only really the hardcore graphics whores that like to spend silly amounts of money on achieving 200+ FPS at Ultra High settings (ok I may be exaggerating a little, or am I?).

That doesn't make them any more of a hardcore gamer however. More like hardcore benchmarkers. Which to be honest I see as a different market entirely.

Try doing schoolwork without a computer nowadays, but I understand what you're getting at.

I'd rather sit inside all day and play MMOs than being a moron and getting drunk at parties.

Try putting it in the xbox section then. Everyone in this section obviously knows what is better and how much it cost them

I don't see what the thread is trying to accomplish though since you are making hypotheticals with your reasoning, assuming everyone has something.
