Adequate room ventillation is advised from both a PC cooling perspective and a creature comfort point of view. This may also be a factor in his high temps = high ambients.

Ceiling fans, pedistal fans, A/C and open windows are the the key here.
Drats, his room doesn't have a window. Although after I cable managed my case and put better fans, it seemed a lot cooler. Infect now that I'm on open air and I have a stock cooler, I can't tell a temp difference at all. Strange. And I knew that about heat to tell displacement would be the same, I just hoped you guys would prove me wrong. DARN YOU PHYSICS. yeah but I'd still get this guy a good xspc kit. So great same heat dump. Nothing to do about that. Could possibly just get a better fan for him (room). Still don't understand how my room is cooler (my CPU is at stock) but I'm stuck on a trashy stock heat sink with temps 60c most times. On my 860 I used to have around 20c with my delta fan but dang was the room REALLY HOT. now it's pretty normal. What.?

Now deciding over the Noctua or the xspc. Hard choice my friends, hard choice.

This. His computer will consume the same amount of power regardless of what cooling method you use. Power consumption is the only thing that matters. If you consume X Watts of power you produce X Watts of heat, period.

Some methods of cooling are more effective than others at pumping that heat out of the case and will lower the temps of his CPU/GPU but if you are wanting to lower the overall temperature in his room this will not help.

There are 2 solutions.

A. Lower the computer's power consumption

B. Improve the room's ventilation/cooling

Sorry, but thermodynamics is thermodynamics...

Yeesh guys no need to reiterate this in every post. I understand the basic principles of thermodynamics, I just idiotically assumed it somehow did fly apply to water cooling. Thank you all for reminding me once again that physics is retarded. DAMN YOU NEWTON. you and your alchemy and witchcraft and calculus are the bane of my existence.

Also I'm not too sure he'd be willing to what... Reposition his air duct or extend it? It's moderate pc and he's a teen. He was just wondering if his room wouldn't be so hot without paying a ton on ac, guess I'll just till him he really has no option.

A final trick: If his home is central air conditioned and if his room has the air return duct, then this could still be used as a route to dump the hot air into.

Manage his cables and his components might not overheat as much?

But the same amount of heat is being dissipated... Water is just doing it more effectively.

1. Use the excess energy to change a phase of a coolant
2. Get enough of it to last for a few hours or however long a session he wants.
3. ???
4. PROFIT!

lol j/k he can't do anything except open a window, decrease the heat source (undervolt) or move the computer.

meh, he has two fans, plus his room has always been hot. I've told him to do some cable management, get a 460 to max SCII and purchase a Noctua NHD14. Fair enough really. Thats about all left to do.
