Recommend me a CPU cooler

Thread Starter
I'm looking to replace my AC7. It's not performing as well as I hoped on my amd 955 (4.0 ghz 1.43v). My main thing I want my cooler to do is be quiet. I only want to spend around 60 on the cooler. How well do heatsinks by itself work? For example Thermalright Venomous X without the cpu fan. I have a p183 case (1 top 1 back 120mm fan for exhaust and 2 fans for intake (push and pull)). Do you think it will fit and work well for my set up?

or

Should I get a corsair H70? The H70 from what I understand isn't a true water cooler right? I also heard that H70 is loud. Is there any maintenance after you have installed it?

or am I better off buying this?

For the money, the CM Hyper 212 can't be beat. If you go with that cooler, get a couple of low DBL, high CFM fans to put on it in a push/pull configuration. Then you'll be chillin

As far as the others, I can't really answer those questions with any honesty. The H70 is suppose to be a good starting w/c setup though.

I think this is your answer!

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/201...k-pro-review/1

Compares with the Thermaltake Frio for temps, and is extremely quiet!

If you're overclocking I wouldn't recommend fanless. I know here in Cali it can be way too hot ambient indoors to run something for a long period without a proper cooler.

Personally wouldn't recommend the H70s, but someone else may have better things to say about it. Check out the bit-tech review and go from there.

I should read OPs in their entirety....

The H70 is a self-contained loop that requires no maintenance what-so-ever. It IS technically WCing because it uses liquid to transfer heat away from the CPU, but since it is a closed loop, is limited to a single 120mm radiator, and can be beaten by some air coolers out there, most do not consider it WCing.

"H70, you're semi-watercooling. You're quasi-watercooling. You're the margarine of watercooling. You're the diet coke of watercooling. Just one degree-- not cool enough..."
