I'm still on LAG775, but I'm contemplating selling the core of my build and going after Sandy Bridge at some point.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I hope you're joking. The Pentium 4 architecture is just over a decade old. Some of the better ones can still be alright if it isn't doing modern games or heavy tasks, but it's still not anywhere near modern. Even my CPU, which performs mostly flawlessly for me and has a much newer architecture, isn't really modern anymore.

i used my old 775 rig playing latest games up untill march of this year when I built my sig rig

was a gateway... but hey... is still in use by my son today
post #34 of 56
There is nothing wrong with 775's. My sig rig plays crysis on medium/high no problem and everything in between. Even my backup rig (using atm) is a Pentium 4 530 (3ghz) and it can multitask pretty well and i'm using Windows 7 Ultimate with 1.5 gigs of RAM

I love my 775, sure it may be outdated but, software hasn't caught up yet so much that it's usless. hell it has some more years head playing games. hell even a Pentium 3 is still doable for internet and nostalgia gaming.

the C2D and C2Qs are still going strong, but to be okay for the near future I would say go quad. I can play any game I want pretty much maxed out so I am happy.

i'm not sure i'll ever redo my core 2 quad build. i built it to just work so to speak by buying beefy parts such as good motherboard with a good VRM setup and nice beefy power supply.

and with crossfire capability I have faith it will still be tp to my challenges for long while.

I blinked and overclocked my board because i'm bi clocking .... oohhhhhh .....oohhhhh

I wish I could agree, but I can't. The internet is a vastly different place than it was in dial-up and early broadband days and when the Pentium III and it's SSE were advertised as "the internet multimedia chip". Flash and all the advertisements and such just drag those things down, and least in my experience.

I've tried using one recently for a few days while my signature PC was apart for cleaning, and it got so unbearable by the second day that I dragged out a Pentium 4 PC to use for the remainder of the duration, even though it'd only be one more day I'd have had to put up with it.

I love the Pentium III, but it just didn't cut it. Stuff had a slight pause/lag right after loading a page, and it was just jerky and laggy and slow all around. Sure, it still works. I could feel it was burdened and that even the internet taxed it though.

A good oc on a C2D or C2Q is really all you need for a single graphics card, as long as your happy with the fps you are getting at the settings you want the game to play on. And sometimes settling for less on the graphics options really isnt that big of a deal. Kind of like how I dont care to use over 4x AA cause at that point I dont see any jaggies. But if its older game I just crank it lol.

I have a Pentium D 2.66ghz which does me fine. Of course I don't do any intense gaming but it handles my 2-4 year old games fine. Internet, video editing, and CAD all do just fine.
