thinking of formatting new laptop.

Thread Starter
I recently bought a lenovo y560. The 650GB HDD has 1 primary partition, a 30GB partition labelled 'Lenovo' that contained all the drivers, a 14GB OEM partiton and a 200MB partition by windows.

Now I hate working off just 1 usable partition, so I backed up the drivers and deleted the other partition and shrunk the primary one. But I couldn't shrink it beyond 289GB event after defragmenting.

I prefer just a 150GB primary partition and the rest as my secondary usable partition.

I was concerned about having all soft/hard features working if I formatted it and installed my own W7. I do seem to have all the drivers in the folder, but I remember the lock touchpad key on my sisters Dell Inspiron stopped working after I formatted it, still cant get it working, downloaded every possible driver available online.

Just wanted to check out any possibility of something like that happening.

Thanks.

if you have all the drivers i would reinstall and just have 1 partition. i did with my old acer 7520 and it worked better afterwards, getting rid of all the bloatware. if their is anything software wise you want download it and use the licence.

who makes lenevo now? I would call/e-mail , but 7 should have every driver you need without a driver disc.

I actually had that issue with an ASUS K50IJ.
It went nuts and I had to reinstall the OS.
I could never get the Fn keys working on it after that, but it ran better than ever.

Lenovo acquired IBM's PC division a while ago, so they're essentially the new IBM PC's.

Yeah thats what Im afraid of, I have all the hardware drivers, but Im worried about the other misc features, like the easy touch keys, the slider touch thingy, the buttons that bring up the power management program and switch from normal/theater mode and the Fn keys, etc etc.

I've done this with three different laptops and i was able to achieve full original functionality. What I did notice with each manufacturer though, is that the drivers for the fn key functions and the various special buttons are not named to make it obvious. So it's always the last thing to get working because theres always 2 or 3 separate drivers required.

i would go through device manager and find everything that you need for special features and google the drivers 1st and download them.
try computer hdd, windows system32 n then drivers, thats the drivers file for drivers installed on your pc.

Back up all of the drivers with driver genius or another program. Then when you reinstall you will have all of the drivers.
