Overclocking in SLI?

Thread Starter
Is it better to find the highest clock of each, then set them at the lower of the 2? Or do you guys oc with both of them installed?

Also is it fine to go to the max voltage in afterburner if the temps are fine? (1.087)

I'm talking about 460's here btw.

1.087 is the max specified voltage allowed by nvidia so going to it is fine - I overclock my SLI together, your adding twice the amount of work by trying them separately and you aren't getting the heat aspect of both running

Agreed, only reason you would do them one at a time is if you think you have a golden card and want to run the lowest VCore you can. I got a golden 1.125 5870 so I do what your asking, but if you have vanilla cards, just find the max of em both at once.

Well for absloute certainty that both will be stable at those clocks it is best to check the cards individually. One card might perforrm fine at X clocks while one might artifact. Patience is a virtue for a reason, you have the right idea. I am one of the most impatient people in the world, yet I still take the time to clock each card individually to know what it is capable of.

Yah this was my logic here. I already have one card so I will see what it can do while i wait for the other one. Then I'll just try out the new one and then put them together. Thanks this is probably the better option. +rep

Doesn't matter what they clock alone, just sli them and find the max clock together.

Well I would still like to have an idea of what each should do. Got a week to wait for the new card anyways.

Ya, if you have a week, there's no reason to not know. I just got my 580's OCed, but since I got them at the same time, and they're the same brand and everything, I can't find a reason to do them separate. Maybe that'll be my next goal. It only takes me a few hours to find the max clocks for a card tho, so it's not that big of a deal for me.
