Laptop for World of Warcraft - Page 2

Yes, that rig in my sig is mine. You can get a laptop to run WoW maxed out with decent performance for probably $500-700.

Does anyone have experience with these computers? I know it has the integrated graphics card which is probably no good, but could I play WoW with "high" settings on any of these?

Short answer: no.

WoW is mostly cpu intensive. With that said, it still needs a decent graphics card to run on high, at least if you want it to run smoothly (not lower than 30-40 fps), especially since the graphics were updated in preparation for Cataclysm, which you probably already know. If I were you, I'd either lower my expectations or save up a little longer.

I would like 30-40 fps in Orgrimmar with a far viewing distance & visible spell effects. What am I looking at spending for this?

If you still want everything maxed, probably right about $1k like my sig laptop. If you don't care about max and want to mix and match your settings, probably in the $6-700 range at least.

Anything @ $500 will run it, but on minimum settings. My old HP laptop I got in August of '08 cost me $500 and I played WoW on it for over a year, raiding included. But that was with everything turned to minimum.

HP dv6915nr

That's the old laptop I used to run. So yes, a $500 laptop will run it, but on low and not all that well. I wouldn't try to 25-man raid anything, but 10-man is doable.

If you want ANYTHING better than bare minimum settings, it's going to cost $200-$500 more.

So, I must say wow is a pretty ''demanding'' game, considering it doesn't support dual gpu, and since it's mostly cpu intensive. I don't know who said wow doesn't support dual core, but since the release of cata, it now does. It's a cpu game, focus on getting a quad core. The graphics card isn't the most important thing to look at in this case. I've seen a video (Youtube: Linus tech tips) where he shows how important a cpu bottleneck is compared to a gpu bottleneck. Get something with a quad, 4 gigs (ddr3 preferably) and something like a 5650 mobile or equivalent (yes it does exist!). You should be able max out wow without shadows with a 700$ budget (ship. + tax included).
Good luck!
