None of these panels have display port, just DVI. In fact they don't even have HDMI. So ATI is out because I am not buying a new monitor when I like what I have now just so I can get an ATI card. Which means I am limited to Nvidia, and limited to an SLI setup... or the GTX 590. I have to have DX11 because I bought this card planning for Battlefield 3, otherwise I would have kept my GTX 295 which worked just fine.

I also watercool. So I have to include costs of waterblocks into the prices. Dual GTX580s would have cost WAY too much with waterblocks. GTX560s would have been a little weak and they still don't even have waterblocks for them. So my choice is pretty much the GTX590 or dual 570s. Assuming I could snag some deals on the 570s, they'd be right in line with the price of the 590. They perform pretty similar, and I find it to be a LOT easier to just buy a hydro copper 590 and throw it in my computer, than to buy 2 570s, buy waterblocks, install the waterblocks, and then deal with the issue of adding the original cooler again if I need to RMA (assuming adding the block doesn't void the warranty, which it does with some cards). I have a job and don't care to waste time messing around with that, I'd rather the extra time go to actually using my computer.

So the obvious choice was the GTX590 as it met every one of my needs, be it stock or overclocked. I have an EVGA card so if it does blow, I'll RMA it quite easily (and I only have 1 card to worry about and I don't need to remove the cooler).

That is why I bought the card I did- it met my needs. That's why anyone should buy anything. Believe it or not, I bought the card after putting a lot of thought into what worked the best for my system. And so far I have 0 complaints and am extremely happy with my purchase
Maybe i am wrong here, but every single 6990 comes with 2 display port to DVI adapters. At least as far as i can tell, giving you a total of 3 DVI ports to work with.

If the 590 is such a failure, why is the limited supply sold out?
http://nexus404.com/Blog/2011/04/06/...f-cards-in-us/

@ the AMD fanboys ( you know who you are ), ever thought that some people simply do not want the 6990? Is that really so hard for you to believe? Get over yourselves.

There are features that Nvidia has that AMD simply does not. The 6990 is slightly faster @1600p ONLY, despite the fact that the 590 is massively downclocked. The general consensus is that they trade blows. In a lot of reviews I read, the conclusion was that it's hard to pick a winner between the 2, since it depends on what games that individual plays.

It's not like the 6990 is convincingly faster like comparing the 580 to the 6970.

Because the cool thing to do is jump into every imaginable 590 thread and start bashing, left and right, even if you don't own the card. You can just pretend like you do, and sound off on something you have absolutely no personal experience with. Also, telling people how they should spend their money or how sensible their choices are, etc., or how they made a poor decision, or how they're a "zealot," or less of an enthusiast, etc., for choosing something they don't agree with seems to be the norm these days. I love it when people try to tell me what to do with MY hard earned money, and question how I can't POSSIBLY be satisfied with my purchase.

I am no fanboy, but everytime i've posted in a 590 thread describing my reasons for choosing the 590 over, say, the 6990 (and why I replaced my 480s), I get absolutely ignored, and no one wants to make a rebuttal after i've covered all my bases....it seems like everyone responds to saulin though, rofl.

It's funny, I dare someone to comb through my post history and find threads where I went into an ATI thread and started making snide remarks/making assumptions about why/how my fellow, "enthusiasts" came to their purchasing decisions, and just spewing general hate toward ATI cards, etc.

Don't worry, i'll wait.

Something selling out is related to how many were made in the first place. People expected one thing and instead they got a locked down card... In some people's eyes that constitutes a failure.

There really is only one person bashing (we all know his name ).

The majority of us are just expressing our displeasure with Nvidia for locking down their flagship product. I don't think the people who bought the 590 should be criticized for their purchase (there are legitimate reasons to buy the beast), but I for one don't really see a problem with people posting their issues with Nvidia.
Posting issue's is ok, but you see alot of flaming around when it come's to threads about GTX590, HD6990

Yes the GTX590 has some things i dont like really, but it seems exploding cards is allready history with new drivers
The card is still very new, give it a chance
And you must admit its still a beast of a card. i wouldnt say no if some offered me one

Btw: i didnt mention any names JPCuser

I think you have me mistaken with OpenYourEyes1, 'cuz I do remember him stating that it DOES overclock well in the pre-NDA thread. And if I did state that, perhaps I wasn't aware of the weak VRM design at the time, in fact, no one saw that coming.

Considering we were told that it's a "beastly overclocker", I do remember saying that with my 470 for example, I can easily overclock it from the 607 stock clocks to 800-1600-1800 which matches 480 performance. We all know that 95% of the time, you can overclock a card easily, which is sadly not the case with the 590.

Also, I wasn't referring to the 590 selling out being a success compared to the 6990 which as far as we know, has unlimited supply. I am merely stating that despite its short comings, people still bought it, and it sold out fairly quickly. So really, the card is not as much of a fail as some people are making it out to be, because if it was, the card wouldn't have sold out so fast.

For $700, sure it doesn't match 580 SLI performance which is what most people expected from it, but keep in mind that dual 580's do cost $1000, so IMO the 590 is delivering the performance you're paying for.

If the card delivered 580 SLI performance easily, it wouldn't cost $700, I'm sure we can agree on that?

My whole point (rant) was that the (AMD fanbase especially one guy in particular) should just let the 590 owners be and get off their backs. ALL 590 owners know that some cards died, that they have little OC room, and they're well aware of its short comings, yet, they are still fine with their purchase. Just let them be.

I don't know how many times we have to hear that the 6990 + 6970 is an amazing combo for $1000, I believe we all got it the first time, and it doesn't need to be repeated over and over and over again, in every thread. 3 570's are also an amazing combo for $1000, but you don't hear me saying that over and over again.

One last thing...

People expected one thing and instead they got a locked down card... In some people's eyes that constitutes a failure
I wholeheartedly agree, I think people were expecting a lot more from the 590 considering how great the 580 is, and Nvidia truly dropped the ball with the weak VRM design, you'd think they would've learned from the 570's, and like I said, they made up for it by pricing it accordingly. But again, this is all common knowledge now.

I hope that there's a refresh, or a non-reference 590 made, as I'll be sure to jump on it. But I doubt there are many cherry picked chips left.
