i7 2600k vs x6 1055t - Page 18

If bulldozer is faster it will be priced accordingly. Intel isn't going to change their pricing and AMD will take advantage of that either way.

I have GTX 470's in SLI, I'm not going to get anymore GPU power than what I have right now until the next gen comes out. Once Kepler comes out IB and Gen 2 BD will be coming out soon afterward.

AMD has been so far behind for so long people seem to forget the days of their $1000 chips, the pricing hasn't changed since then, the only difference is AMD can't make a chip that can hold the $1000 price point.

Not necessarily. My PII x6 was faster than my old Q9550 yet is cheaper, even when it first came out.

Says you and you only. Quit making things up until BD gets here. Intel finally passed AMD with the bang for buck title with Sandy, and Sandy only. To think that AMD can't just as easily take it back from them is rather foolish.

Well get the 2500k, P.S Intel will have better stuff than AMD's bulldozer.

But the Q9550 was last gen when the PII x6 came out.

Intel doesn't change their prices.

On that note, the 1090T was $300 when it came out, about the same price as the i7-920.

The i7-920 is still $300, whereas the lowly 1090T is only $200. Why? Because people know the i7 is faster, Intel doesn't need to reduce their prices, they set the market and AMD has to compete with sub-par performance.

You clearly missed the part they've been using the same architecture since 2003... Bulldozer is a whole new architecture but they kept the integrated memory controller and HT Bus everything else is completely different than the AMD64 architecture.

So if they make a chip worthy to hold the $1,000 price point will you buy it?

No, just like I wouldn't buy a 990x.

It doesn't matter if its their first new architecture since 2003, it has no baring on if something will be good or if it will be bad. If that was the case neither company would release anything and it would become a match of who could wait the longest so they had the best cpu.

And if there's any company willing to take a hit on there profit margin it's Amd lol, intel only drops prices when there next gens come out and there phasing something out

Edit: and u have to give Amd some props for still having chips that could compete after using the same architecture for 8-9yrs

I'm not "slamming" it either. I'm sharing an opinion I've formed based on its design and the information JF-AMD has provided. Anytime you split a cores resources you lose performance. AMD (IN MY OPINION) is designing a cpu that is intended for server performance. As they won't release any specs on it other than the throughput performance compared to mangy.
think again..
with that amount information publicly released, nobody can predict reliably what performance will be.

Example, do you exactly know how BD 4 cores will be clockable ? Not a chance.
This time at AMD are too many unknown variables - architectural properties and of course manufacturing tech.

Did anybody knew back in time , when nehalem was started, how SB will perform, or what overclock will be possible ? No.
