i7 2600k vs x6 1055t - Page 22

Personally I'm going to see what AMD has come up with, with their Bulldozer CPUs, especially since I expect I'll be able to pop one into my current motherboard (according to Asus). We'll see how they match up against Intel Sandy Bridge and if the eight-core ones aren't priced out the arse. I might upgrade to a Bulldozer CPU depending on all those factors. Otherwise, it's either Intel Ivy Bridge or whatever Intel pop out after, for me.

I'm thinking that next upgrade I'll venture into the world of dual GPU graphics cards as well. I don't want more than one card but one card with about twice the throughput sounds great.

Better per dollar maybe but I am still skeptical.

Not really the only advantage IMO to wait for bulldozer is if you already have a bulldozer board ready, and your not being GPU bottle necked.

Unless bulldozer completely knocks one outta the park, I'm happy with having my performance now. Why wait there is no point, at least not in my case everybody's case is different though.

Best case senario IMO is bulldozer matches sandy. In that case im good as I have sandy now.

Correct me if Im wrong but in the past all FX chips wich is what bulldozer is, were in the 900-1000 dollar range? I know bulldozer will not be that high but its gonna be higher than its current flag ship chip by a long shot.

Like I said IMO

3ds Max 2010 could run on an awful, awful graphics card worth nothing but the materials it is made of - only there to send a display signal to the monitor for your editing and rendering pleasure. The CPU is then the beast that does ALL the work. Remember, not everyone JUST plays games on a PC.

Because it can't get better than 99% usage.

I swear you need to write a book after pages and pages of talking about the same thing people still take what you stay to places that weren't even in the original topic of discussion.

OP originally was talking about gaming, now hes talking about other things.

OP you should wait for Bulldozer, because the i5-2500k is only slightly faster than a AMD x6 in some of the things you listed so it wouldn't be much of a upgrade there, but don't buy the 6950s cause the AMD cpu won't be able to power them anyways.

After you wait for bulldozer, wait for x6 and x8 sandy bridge cpus they should be coming out around the same time, that will put us in the middle of the year. After you wait for them to come out you should wait for Ivy Bridge, since its a 22nm die shrink which will mean better overclocking and less heat. They're already talking about it having a 20-30% performance increase over Sandy Bridge! At the same time IB is coming out we should start to see second gen bulldozer chips which will be 22nm as well with probably the same improvements. At this point its up to you if you think either of those are good for future proofing, but I'll warn you not long after Ivy Bridge comes out Haswell will be out, which is not only 22nm fab but also a whole new design, I'm guessing if its anything like the last few gen upgrades we're talking about 20-30% boost in performance over Ivy Bridge, which was already about 30% faster than Sandy Bridge, not to mention by that time consumer cpus will probably have 16 or more cores.

The future is proof.

The i5-2500k is faster than a AMD x6 in everything, even encoding/rendering... The question is though, do you really need it on a single 5850?

Don't get me wrong its awesome that 4 cores can beat 6 in multi-tasking, but its not by a lot.. I don't see the point.

I mean, Last time I made some ati vs nvidia Question ppl started to flare and the post got blocked or/and erased. I don't want a war here. I just want answeres. I do game in my PC, But The mainly reason I want to upgrade is, One, I will have some extra cash coming soon and I want to get my PC future Proof. Second, I do Encode, Render and Do some 3D sculps, Edit videos and all that stuff and Usage CPU a lot. So I need/want to know what would be the better option for future proof and the things I do today. I don't mind Waiting for BD. Infact I think I'll just wait. Since I can get more cash to buy a better MoBo then the one I currently can afford. I think I'll go with the 2600k if the BD does not beat it. And get a ivy compatible MoBo to upgrade later, SINCE I USE CPU A LOT lol. So yea.. If not, BD will be. I'm nto a fan boy, I just want and get what I need.
Btw, I love XFX and Asus only I'm fan boy of Asus and XFX <3

Just so I don't get labeled a troll too much more.

This thread should have been over awhile ago.

OP flippin and floppin. Why go crossfire when you're already "good" why upgrade from a amd x6 to a i5-2500k which would only provide a slight boost in overall multi-threading performance. None of what hes saying makes any real sense.

OP wants more cpu power for rendering and such so hes thinking about getting a i5-2500k, ok thats a minor upgrade... But then hes talking about getting 6850s? Why? You need more encoding and editing power, you need CUDA.

Do some research, end this thread already.

Am I the only one who finds it funny that the troll wants to see the thread closed after the op decided to do the smart thing? The troll was all for keeping it open when he thought the op was going to rush to Sandy. Now I'll wait for the troll's chearleader to jump in and tell me how he didn't reply because he knows I'm right.
OP isn't doing the smart thing.

OP is doing it all wrong.

If hes fine in gaming with his AMD x6 but needs more encoding and editing power he needs Nvidia gpus as they offer acceleration in both those areas, not a i5-2500k which is only really going to help his gaming and two 6850s which are going to do nothing for editing or encoding.

I'm the troll? Where were you geniuses to tell him exactly what he needs to know like I tried to at the start? Get over bulldozer already wow... He doesn't even need a cpu upgrade.
