VE278Q to console questions

Hi all! Through help with you guys I recently purchased an ASUS VE278Q that is amazing, its huge and the image quality has me really impressed. My pc is my main (as in only) entertainment center in my apartment. No TV, no stereo, etc. So now that I can watch movies on a good size screen and play pc games, I'm wondering how I can go about utilizing my new monitor even more.

I'm considering buying a new or used Playstation 2 sometimes soon, to play some old favorite games on the cheap. My monitor has built in speakers, so how can I plug the console to my monitor and use the monitor speakers? I have a surround system as well which I use for the pc, so if I absolutely have to I can move cables around whenever I power up the console, but I'd like to avoid this if possible.

On that note, how good are the speakers built in the monitor? I have no way to test them. If I ever buy a console that supports HDMI, I can plug that straight into my monitor, but will the sound quality cut it?

Thanks in advance! Any help is welcome.
