I managed one of the greatest things i have ever done when a blockbuster closed iin my area. This was around 2 months ago, I walk ina and see a sign that said 50% off everything in the store. Well I see a pair of slim 360's and I check the price, their marked down to $159 (w/half off already), walk up to register and ask for the 50% off. The dude without even thinking rings it as such, I walk across the street and sell them to gamestop for 160 a piece... BOOM 150 bucks profit.

Oh the memories of being 8 years old and going to blockbuster every end of the month with my parents to buy a couple of used ps1 games. Even if it is overpriced crap, i'm still kinda sad to see it go

sidenote: is it just me or do the blockbuster stores smell really good. It has to be some sort of marketing technique.

They lost me when they hiked their game prices up, then sort of got me back with the whole "no more late fees" thing. The nail in the coffin for them was bringing the late fees back though... you just don't do that. I don't care how much they were hurting. Axing the last good thing about them wasn't a good idea. It all seemed like really bad management. Sure, they wouldn't be making as much money off of lower priced stuff, but they'd be doing more sales. Instead they made themselves out to the Best Buy of rentals, marking stuff up a crazy amount, and customer's were like "thanks, but no."

The Blockbuster down the street from me does a monster business every weekend. On Fridays the line goes way up the isle and is like that all night. It's the only one I ever go to so I didn't know they were hurting this much. They should have just closed down the stores that didn't do any business and they wouldn't be in this situation.

i was a long time block buster subscriber and was happy with them until they started changing the plan. You used to be able to return the mailer movies at the store and get 3 more movies to watch while they mailed you 3 more that were in your queue. They stopped that....you could still get three movies at the store but they wouldnt mail you anything until you returned the 3 you got from the store. Then they raised prices. Then they messed with the queue settings so that if the movie at the top of the queue was not available, they wouldnt mail you anything for a couple of days....instead of mailing you the next available movie in your queue you had to wait and see if the one that wasnt available would become available. LAME! I cancelled and moved to Netflix....we like Netflix. I'm not sad or surprised to see blockbuster go bankrupt....they truly deserved it.

Bittersweet, I think. I remember working at Blockbuster when I was a pup. Inventory nights were always fun, we'd prank-call the hollywood video across the street until they took the phone off the hook. Hid in the drop box and shoved movies back out at customers when they put them in, shouted out movie titles that could be considered sexual innuendos...

I remember any time it rained, snowed, or was crummy out, the store would be packed wall to wall with people vying for Enemy of the State, Office Space, the Notebook.... ugh... those nights were hell.
