[PRN] iPad 2 Tops Consumer Reports' Tablet Ratings - Page 3

Tablets should not be viewed in terms of replacing a smartphone; if anything they replace a netbook (mobility, lighter, smaller), which someone might want to replace a laptop (mobility).

A tablet can be used with or without an external keyboard. You can hold it at any angle, you can prop it up at any angle.

Personally, the iPad was never in consideration for me because 1. I have an iPhone and iOS doesn't appeal to me (it works, no complaints), and 2. the screen resolution sucks (like I said, personal preference, I hate low resolutions). A minor 3. and the iPad has a low amount of RAM, which is surprising given how cheap RAM is these days. I'm sure it's more expensive when you're building a tablet and getting everything to fit (if it isn't just part of the system board), but...

More tablets come out, more people buy them, the cheaper they get, the more popular they become, etc. etc. Netbooks had the same complaints as tablets; why do you need a smaller laptop? Because it suits your needs better, or because you can.

Xoom gets gimped on the portability for weighing a whole 1/3rd of a pound more, but gets the full rating for the mediocre screen.

Also ease of use... How come having more features and things to do to your tablet=making it harder to use, isn't easier to be like I want to check the weather and be able to see it on the screen right way and lock it again?

The lighter tablets don't get good portability ratings?

Versatility rating is uhh? Combination of 4g and camera?

iPad wifi only gets better portability rating for weighing 0.04 lbs less?

Too much time wasted on this already.

You seriously insulting someone because they own three iDevices? They most certainly aren't the same thing... They each have their own purpose.

Consumer Reports also always ranks Apple desktops with lower specs and a higher price higher than Dell desktops with much better specs and a lower price. Aesthetics are all these reviewers care about when it comes to computer gadgetry, they aren't going to run Pifast or 3DMark and give you an actual rating.

That being said, the iPad 2 is the best tablet on the market as a tablet, simply because it has such a huge amount of apps available to it, and that's what tablets are made for.

Trolls be trolling, because you can't tell me that an iPhone isn't just an iPod Touch with phone capabilities, and that the iPad isn't just an oversized iPod Touch. When it really comes down to it, that's what they are. So yes, that lady with all three at once was being a bit ridiculous.

I still don't think Tablets are all that great and are just a fad which will die soon. I've used both the Ipad, and the Ipad 2 and I just don't see the appeal.

When I found out that the most downloaded app over Christmas was a fart app I think I understood everything about apple users

the fad has been going for just over a year now.. and looks like it will continue.

i mentioned it several times before, maybe its just the demographic on OCN, but there could be over a million sold, glowing reviews, yet a select few will disregard it as "apple idiots" or "fan boys". and remain ignorant to the fact that the iPad is simply a successful product. Due to marketing? perhaps. but if it was all for naught people wouldnt return it?

looks like i stand corrected at least there are open minded people on OCN now.

dad and i pitched in to order one for my mom's b-day. I think it has come in by now.

I'm not a troll. And, "a bit ridiculous" != "a dumbass".

Now, the iPhone is just an iPod touch with phone capabilities; although it's more like the iPod touch is just an iPhone without phone capabilities -- the iPhone came first, IIRC.

However, the iPad isn't a big iPod touch / iPhone, it's much different and much better -- the bigger screen makes all the difference for software and usability. I'm not going to try and make you understand this, but it's the same as saying the Xoom is just a big droid phone that can't call, which it isn't.

The person I replied to didn't say the person had an iPod touch, but an iPod, which I assume is a classic although it could be a nano, etc.
I don't see the necessity for a nano but a classic I can understand, seeing as it's relatively cheap for the amount of storage you get.

Haha, I so agree on this. Actually the whole Android ecosystem is slammed for being not too "user-friendly" enough. Widgets alone make information easier to view, but still this criticism gets thrown around pretty often. Come on, is it that hard for people to adjust to a new learning curve? Is the new consumer demographic that spoon-fed now that it refuses to actually learn how to use the Android OS?
