Help with installing windows 7 64 bit on Vertex 3 - Page 2

Thanx Gib +Rep

I had the same exact issue on my Sig Rig. I re-installed in IDE, and it started up fine. Made the registry change and now I am in AHCI mode.

I really hope this is not gonna be a typical issue. I've been comparing performance between my C300 and this V3 to see which one Im gonna keep. Needless to say, the V3 its not off to a good start if I can't even install Windows smoothly :-\

I just figured something that might be useful. You've got Windows 7 installed on the SSD using IDE mode in your BIOS. So, boot into Windows 7 as normal but now in the registry, enable AHCI. Run "regedit" and navigate to this folder:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci

Right click on the "Start" key, and go to Modify. The value you'll have is probably "3". Change it to "0". Close it all and reboot. Now in the BIOS, change to AHCI mode. After changing the registry key, Windows 7 will want to boot as AHCI mode - perhaps this circumvents a conflict and avoids the blue screen!?

Thank you...........................grouphug.gif +rep

No problem guys! smile.gif
Glad it was helpful.

The problem is indeed strange in my view as I had zero problems with mine OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD. I'm pretty sure that suddenly when you change motherboard at some point in the future (for a general upgrade), you will no longer have this issue. I'm sorry if this has been mentioned in a previous post and I've skipped over it but did you try having JUST the SSD connected to your motherboard (no other HDD, just perhaps your optical drive, too! smile.gif) and connected to the SATA-0 port (the very first one)?

Either way, it does indeed sound like a hardware problem to me. Not so much from the SSD, but from the motherboard. Something's going on there that is causing Windows 7 to not like AHCI from your motherboard for installation of the OS. Either that or Windows 7 isn't detecting your motherboard's AHCI mode and so during installation, there was a conflict of drivers. In the end Windows 7 must have wanted IDE mode (until you forced AHCI after installation, of course). If the motherboard manufacturer has nothing to say about it, perhaps a BIOS update will fix it all. I doubt very much it's an SSD issue!

Yep, the Gigabyte boards and the Vertex 3 do not seem to like each other. There's a pretty long thread over at the OCZ support forums regarding the same issue.

Then I guess either OCZ or Gigabyte will be fixing this via a firmware or BIOS update. Or both. I doubt it'll just be left like that.
