Plz Suggest a PSU

Thread Starter
Well i am thinking of assembling a new PC, but with Bulldozer just around the corner i am thinking of going for a temporary one with a cheap AMD athlon chipset and supporting mobo and salvage these both to my current system at a later date once the bulldozer and supprted AM3+ mobo's arrive, so my question is which PSU should i get to be future proof.

As said earlier i will be upgrading in a few months time, and i will be looking to unlock my future purchase, so please keeping that in mind suggest a good future proof PSU, it should be VFM( Value For Money)

Thanks !!

Here is a good one that should be future proof: XFX 850 watt PSU! I just got it myself a few months ago and it is serving me well ! Definitely VFM!

Will 850w be enough to support a high end bulldozer, bobcat, am3+ setup including a high end graphics card and a mid range sound card as well, plus also taking into consideration the heat sinks since I will look to overclock it too

1 HDD, 1 BD, 1 DVD

Should i go for 1200 or more, or should 850 or even 750 will be enough ?
Need more info about what your putting in there, the BD chip will likely draw similar or less power than current chips, in a 1 graphics card system more than 600w will most likely be complete overkill for 2 gpus go to 750+.

But make sure you buy a decent brand and research properly the exact model your looking at allot of companies make many good products but a few bad ones and vice versa, Personally I like Antec and corsair for my psu's cheap ish and rock solid. for the most part.

Define "High end".

Without knowing the exact TDP of Bulldozer, it's hard to tell, and you need to be more specific on other components.

If it helps, you can run a highly clocked i7 and 5970 on a quality 650W. Most single GPU setups are fine on a quality 650/750W.

Bull dozer is 32nm fab current phenom chips are 42nm microarchitecture

The smaller the microarchitecture genrally the less power it will consume clock for clock.

I doubt bulldozer will be over current phenoms in terms of tdp could be wrong though ^^

For 1 gpu, I'd recommend at least 550W, but if you think you'll get a second one later on, I'd say 650W-700W.

If you end up getting 2 mid-range cards, like 2x 6850s/6870s or 2x GTX 460s, with a highly overclocked CPU, you can go as low as a quality 650W PSU; brands like Antec, Corsair, XFX, and Seasonic are generally better for this range.

I personally use an Antec TPN 750W (rebranded Seasonic) and it didn't have problems running a Phenom II at 4Ghz/1.46v and 2x 6850s (maxed core/mem overclocks in CCC) while having Prime95 and Furmark running everything at full load.

Well judging by the comments made i would suspect anything above 750w would be an overkill, and NO i won't be adding two GPU's, it will be a single GPU, i was just apprehensive about the PSU able to handle the overclocking since power usage of the new bulldozer's is not clear ATM.

If you are going to use only one video card may I suggest this PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817151088 you can't go wrong with Seasonic PSU's..It is fully modular, dead silent, efficient, and well made...If you keep an eye out on the egg you can get a really good deal on them...I got my x750 for $115 a few months ago.
