Serious sound problem, hard to explain.

Thread Starter
I'm having a serious sound problem and it's really hard to explain w/o you guys being able to hear what I'm talking about but I'll give it a try anyway.

I use a Soundblaster X-Fi (which I will never do again by the way) and I run Windows 7 64 bit edition. As far as I know all my sound drivers are up to date.

Basically my sound is just not "right". If I try to watch videos on Youtube or Hulu it will work 1/10 of the time and the other 9/10 of the time the sound will be extremely muffled to the point you can't hear a damn thing other then some strange noise.

Other times sound will work but during the video it will go from sounding fine to the sound lowering itself a considerable amount and distorting.

I've got no clue what's wrong but it's really pissing me off.

At first it was only sounds on the desktop or through web browsers, but now even some video games start messing up. As an example I play WoW and for the most part all the sounds are there but I've noticed some sound effects just never come through anymore.

Any ideas or suggestions?

*edit*
Soundcard is PCIe SB X-FI Titanium Driver version 2.17.8

Would try reinstalling drivers or looking for a different version, it doesn't sound like it's a hardware issue if it's only happening in certain cases.

Unhook the sound card and plug into the onboard.
Switch output to the onboard and see if it is as choppy.

Might have bad caps or something on sound card.
Also make sure you don't have any magnets or interference stuff around the speakers.
