Successful Overclock?????

Thread Starter
hey guys i did my first over clock i read up on alot of stuff im not gonna go overboard because i dont have e-peen issues but i just wanted a little bit more than what i had so i went from 2.53 ghz too a 2.909 ghz over clock on air cooling heres the pic tell me if i did anything wrong i used cpuz to identify end results of overclocking. And yes the pic sucks because i used my cell phone

p.s. I did do a stress test on prime 95 and i went 22 mins highest the temp got was 91c under max load

p.s. #2 I turned hyper threading off since alot of people i asked said that it helps with keeping temps down with overclocking

Good job on your 1st overclock. 91c is very very hot I wouldn't run that hot. Also you will need to make sure that your overclock is stable 22 minutes on prime95 doesn't mean stable sorry. But main thing you want to make sure is that you go step by step first only increase blck till you can't boot into windows then at that point up the vcore 1 click up at a time being that you aren't trying to overclock as many others 4.0+ I don't think you would need to really mess with other voltages (doesn't mean you won't).

Good job through and hope you get stable overclock. Also you might want to invest into an aftermarket cooler to help with temps as well. Stock coolers really aren't as good.

yea im actually using the factory crappy air cooler that came with it its pretty small im suprised it actually works but when i get paid ill grab a better one and i also turned on power saving mode for when im doing normal stuff like web surfing and listening to music it drops the clock down to like 1.8 ghz and temp gowns down pretty low ill only turn power save mode off when i game you think that will help?

1 more thing the temp in my room was 89f so it was warm considering that it should be WAY lower with a better cooler

Yeah, you could do with a better cooler. 91c is too high IMO in comparison to 100c, water's boiling point. But still, you're room's pretty damn hot.

TIP: Try using PRINT SCREEN and paint next time, you'd be surprised JK.

I know I'm from Sandy but that seems like a lot of voltage 3, I would have thought you could get 3.2

can anyone tell me if my processor is actually good for overclocking im getting mixed reviews its a xeon e5540 tdp is 80 , 45 nm one thing i need to add is its a unlocked test chip from intel when you look at the top of the chip it reads "confidential" . alot fo people says this chip is worth alot of money but i have no idea if it was worth so much maybe i could sell it and grab an i-950 and just call it done i wouldnt even need to over clock it since it meets my goal of 3.0 ghz anyway
