cpu-z sees 12gb, system and bios see only 8 gb of the 12 installed

i just added 6 gb ram more to my tower. Something must be wrong with the memory controller of the cpu or the mobo's cpu socket. it cant be explained. Whenever i use the xmp profile and set the ram frequency at 1333 it recognises all 12 gb. but setting it at 1600 the system will see only 8gb and.

Before the new hardware add, all 6 gb were recognised at the xmp profile at 1600mhz, but to achieve that i had to reseat the cpu a couple of times, as the system was problematic from the start, recognising 4/6 gb

. What do you think i should do now? before i go it to the shop i bought it, (iit is covered by 3 year waranty and now i m on the half of the period)

Thanks for any answers in advance.

hello

you could try the kit that is not been seen by the motherboard on its own and see if its the ram or could try a cmos reset and see it worked for me when i had close to the same issue after adding new ram but thats just me tho

or you could also try 1 ram stick at a time and see if it posts in each of the dim slots on your motherboard to also make sure its not the motherboard itsself

hope this helps

it could also just be some settings in your bios. I think i remember seeing someone having this same problem on here and they had to change something in their bios.

XMP will only work for 6GB, not 12. Your problem could be the IMC will not handle 12GB @1600 as i7 CPUs are default @1066. Unless you want to run them @1333 I would just stick with 6GB and sell the remaining 6GB here. (if they test to be good) As III-Kill-ZonE-III said, test each stick 1 at a time in the 1A slot (the 2nd slot from the CPU, red slot) if all sticks (tested 1 at a time) start up then all the sticks are good and your IMC can't handle 6 sticks @1600 only 1333.

thanks for your reply, sorry for the noob question but what is the IMC? maybe intergrated memory controller? if so , as you say it cant handle 6 sticks at 1600 but it can handle 33 at 1600? and is ok to handle 6 sticks at 1333??

Anyway i now have succesfully overclocked the cpu at 3.02 GHz and also overclocked the ram at 7-7-7-20 (instead of 8-8-8-24 manufacture specs) and the closest it can handle the 6 sticks is 1508MHz. So at that speed and overclocked, 12 GB of ram and cpu at 3.02 is the best i can do for the moment. the system is very stable. the highest temperatures are 66, i think i will try hitting 4ghz its about time.

as for the imc, can you please explain me, it is something on the motherboard or on the i7 cpu?

Yes IMC is Integrated Memory Controller. To run that much RAM (6 sticks) you have to increase a few settings, VTT, QPT, CPU voltage and DRAM voltage.
