but he's getting a 260 for sequential read, my c300 gets alot higher than that.

Pretty much sums it up. I just ran my own tests with my C300 64GB. Intel controller + iaStor (Rapid Storage driver) gave me far better results than Marvell controller with msahci driver or Marvell controller with Marvell drivers.

And I believe there is no TRIM on Marvell controller, no matter how you try it (marvell driver or msahci driver).

so people with x58 boards should get a vertex 3?
what about c300, or intel 510?

people with x58 shouldn't get vertex 3 since it's not true sata 6 due to hardware limitation. the c300 drives is within the limitation so it won't be capped. not sure about the intel 510 since no one seems to know exactly how high is the cap. but in real world you wouldn't really notice the difference unless you bench it.

I'm curious I have a G1 Assassin that uses the new marvell 9182 controller does the limitation still count me since I have the new controller? l'm assuming marvell rectified the problems with this new updated controller?

Lsdmeasasp ran some tests on this controller in RAID mode:
http://forums.crucial.com/t5/Solid-S...p/44328#M13865

However, as far as TRIM is concerned, it seems that there is still no support. Even with latest drivers (mvs91xx -1.2.0.1200):
