At that resolution, unless you dont care about maxing out your games, you definitely need a bigger card. Even I have a gtx 570 oced at 850 when I am only at 1920 x 1080

edit: tiger direct has the gtx 480 with accelero xtreme on it for 240 after coupon and rebates. maybe you should consider than instead or even sli these babies. fyi accelero xtreme is a beast of a cooler

that is a great deal, but you may want something even stronger

here is my recommended build:

CPU: 2600k or 2500k

GPU: SLI GTX 480s (prity much same performance as 570 SLI)

PSU: XFX 850W

Case: HAF 932 (this one is just personal preference because it is so versatile and has ridiculous air flow. go with the phantom if you like the looks)

HD: 1TB 6GB SATA

OS: Windows 7

Mobo: GA-P67A-UD7-B3 (currently the best sandy bridge board on the market)

RAM: G.Skills DDR3 1600 (2x2GB)

with the 2600k the total comes to $1514.92 with $20 of mail in rebates

with the 2500k the total comes to $1429.92 with $20 of mail in rebates

i know that this is slightly pushing your budget, but this should destroy anything you through at it (even at 2560x1600)... the only other thing i can say is that if you have some more money, i upgrade to SLI 580s

EDIT: also, what CPU cooler are you currently using? im gunna assume it is after market because you are at 3.6GHz, but i have never used the E series so i honestly dont know

EDIT 2: had the wrong amount for the rebates

No one needs a 2600K unless they are animation programming, encoding, AutoCAD, or video editing.

I'd get an Antec or Corsair PSU over the XFX.

Spinpoint F3 1TB > Caviar Black. $30 cheaper as well. And 6GBps is not necessary at all. No SATAII drive ever even gets close to it's 3GB cap in the first place.

I didn't mean to sound like I was criticizing you at all eskamobob, just some secondary options

lol... np... i figured i would leave the option of the 2600k up to him, but i agree... its more for bragging rights ... and the reason i didnt recommend the Corsair is that i have never used one and i like to only recommend components that i have used in a build if possible, so that i can personally vogue for them... and as for the SATA II, i haven't gotten any any chance to read some reviews on it yet, so i wouldn't know... this was just a quick through together of a build... please feel free to comment on it and make some recommendations to me as well
