1333MHz + CL7 vs. 1600MHz + CL9

Thread Starter
hi, i'm working on a budget build and having trouble picking ram

just some facts:
- using this rig for school/work, internet, movies, games (no programming/video stuff)
- no oc
- cpu: i5 2400
- mbo: asus p8p67 le

rams:
g.skill ripjaws x 2x4gb 1600mhz cl9-9-9-24
F3-12800CL9D-4GBXL
$45.22

g.skill ripjaws x 2x4gb 1333mhz cl7-7-7-21
F3-10666CL7D-4GBXH
$44.78

so which one is more important, speed or efficiency?

I'd rather go with the tighter timings at 1333MHz 7-7-7-21

Found this Bit-Tech review: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/mem...sandy-bridge/1

It seems like 1600 C9 out-performs 1333 C7 in general. The difference is minimal and you won't notice any difference whatsoever in everyday usage. It wouldn't be worth switching from one to the other, but if you're buying fresh, why not get every last bit of performance?

School work & internet it's best to settle for the C7
Gaming & OC then get the C9

Ram is the 2nd important part in OC. Wanna get the best out of ur game then OC ur PC. Just find a sweet spot & don't go too high. 24/7 stable OC would do. I always go 1 step lower then max.

Compare Corsair Vengeance & Mushkin Ridgeback.
Corsair Domanitor-GT but the glory days are over...
Personally I'll go for Mushkin... Research a bit, U'll see why I'll go for it.

With Mushkin, U get to OC & play with it.

1600 all the way...I would only suggest 1333 for older AMD phenoms

When in doubt, pick bandwidth over latencies. Get the 1600MHz ram.

You noticed that the OP is running a Sandybridge CPU...where you cannot OC the FSB, and therefore cannot OC the RAM. Didn't you?

It's pretty tight, you probably won't notice the differences. Some programs will favour lower latencies while other will favour bandwith...

Why do you need a p67 if you dont plan on overclocking? Go with h61 board and save money for better graphics card
