Stupid Question about Soundcard

Thread Starter
finally purchased my 1st good quality headphone AD700 after read and asked so many suggestions from here. now the 2nd thing is the sound card. my target is xonar DX.
here is the stupid questions before i click "purchase"

whats the basic setting i need to do after i installed into my cpu ?

should i uninstall the onboard sound card driver ?

the xonar dx should have its own driver and equalizer, after i use that i need to disable the itunes equalizer so they won't conflict each other ?

the most stupid question is.. after done everything ,can i plug my headphone into the connector infront of the my cpu case or i can only connect at the back which is the xonar dx connector ?

You just have to disable onboard in BIOS, though this won't necessarily mess things up if you don't. Others have not disabled onboard in BIOS and their setup works fine.

You would be able to plug your headphones into the front of your case, yes, but I always plug mine into the sound card directly.

I never use iTunes as I hate it and use other things like Winamp and MediaMonkey, so I couldn't tell you for sure if the two are going to conflict, but if you set it to output to your sound card, I would hope that the sound card takes precedence over iTunes and it uses the Asus Software for the EQ instead of iTunes.

Also, you should download these drivers instead of the Asus' sites.

so what you mean is, what i need to do is install the sound card and driver, set it as default and plug my headphone enjoy the music thats all correct ? LOL

but do you still using the equalizer on the winamp ? i mean you set the equalizer on asus driver + the winamp equalizer ?

so even im plug in front of my case it should still using the xonar dx function , not the onboard soundcard right ?

Just install, put in drivers, set your music program to accept card at most and enjoy.

I don't touch the winamp equalizer, so if anything the winamp equalizer is flat.

Yeah, your front panel should use the Xonar DX if it's properly wired.

Before installing the new card, always uninstall the existing sound card drivers and software and restart your computer.

Most BIOS will automatically turn off onboard audio when they detect discrete audio cards, but I always disable onboard in the BIOS myself to prevent conflicts.

The DX has the front panel header for the case front audio connectors, you just need to correctly connect the case header to it, for proper function.

The STX is a much higher quality sound card designed for 2 speakers. It has high grade audio components in lieu of standard components, and replaceable OP AMPS.

It uses "virtual" surround sound, so you want to check if your speakers can hook to the STX's outputs if you have surround speakers.

The STX also has the front panel header.

I don't know about your equalizer question, but I assume the card's software would supercede other software settings.

The STX is not a surround card. The card is designed for 2.0 setups and Headphones. The advantage to the STX is that it has a built in headphone amp that will give you that little something extra with low impedance headphones, under 100 Ohms (Its still not strong enough to drive cans like the Beyerdynamic DT770 250 Ohm).

The connections on the back of the card are as follows, digital out, headphone, microphone, and left and right audio for your speakers.

To be honest, the STX is a bit much for your AD700's. Not to say it won't sound great, its just too much card for those headphones. You will be perfectly fine with the card that you have selected in the OP as the impedance of the AD700's is so low they can be driven by most audio sources without amps.

@ Moltar

It is designed for 2 speaker setups, but does create "virtual" surround and can be used for up to 7.1 speakers.
