ASUS Maximus IV Extreme

Ok so I've built my system and booted up. For a higher end SSD it dedinately took longer than expected to install windows (I made sure I had bios sata set to AHCI) .

Well I rolled with it and once win7 ult 64 installed and booted everything was functioning properly until I did windows update. Once it installed the 73 updates my pci wireless wouldn't show up after reboot and windows was extremely sluggish.

Blah I feel like im not making much sense but I guess im asking if with this mobo, are there any Microsoft updates that are not compatible? Anyone know if I should update the bios? Guess im just looking for some tips from anyone already familiar with the pains of this still new mobo. My set up is in my system profile.

is there a reason you went with so many individual updates instead of just getting SP1?

I was amazed with the install time for windows 7 on my 510.

If you're not running bios 1204 i'd update to it.

Well after windows installed I just let windows update do its job. I didn't know there was one download that would get me completely up to date. Don't know what bios version im on but its not been updated since boot.

I have a plextor 128gb ssd with 410/210 speeds but it seems to behave like a disk drive at boot. Maybe once windows is updated it will improve.

I will update the bios and try to find the sp1 download for win7 I guess. I just dropped 3300 dollars or so on a new system I guess I expected too much lol. Had much less trouble with my i7 920 build with an asus ws revolution.

Thanks for any an all advice folks :-)

I found this on another forum.

1.If any of the following devices are not detected or not usable:
- Devices installed on PCIEx1_1 slot
- Devices installed on PCIEx1_2 slot
- The additional SATA6G port from Marvell 9128
- eSATA controller
- Devices installed on PCI_1 slot
- Devices installed on PCI_2 slot
- Onboard 1394 controller
- Second LAN
Please check the device manager under 'Storage controllers' , look for a device with the name 'ACS-6xxxx'. The manufacturer is 'Accusys Inc.' and will have an exclamation mark next to it.
This driver may be installed automatically when users run Windows Update, which causes a malfunction of these devices. Please uninstall the driver, reboot, and then those devices/slots will be available. We have asked MS to pull this driver from the auto update procedure.

Ok well at least now im posting from my desktop instead of my phone. Fortune thank you for that, I beleive that it was the root of most of my issues as far as windows update is concerned. I cannot however get my HDD to show in windows. My SSD which the OS is installed too shows up of course, but no storage drive. It registers in the bios and at the correct capacity. I have it plugged into the Intel sata 6/gb port and not the marvell because it wouldnt even register in the bios on that port. It is connected using a 6/gbs sata cable and IS a sata 3 drive 2tb. I guess I will update windows fully excluding the previously mentioned problem driver and see if it fixes it.

Okay problems resolved. I ditched updating the driver as per Fortunes advice, updated all of everything else through windows update. Everything is working fine now. Also, i am still laughing at myself, but I failed to format my HDD and it was simply unallocated space. Disk management and walla! I dont know for sure why my SSD was receiving a 5.2 in the experience index but after updating through windows update and using a tweak utility found elsewhere in the forums, I am getting 418/208 speeds and index jumped to 7.7. Thanks for all the replies and help everyone.
