The old one was great but I'm liking this new one a lot more.

I agree much nicer battery cover. Hmm, I wonder if I'll be able to get my hands on one of these when I get a new phone, and if the Lower Mainland actually supports it...

On an unrelated topic, your old avatar was creepier (and therefore cooler). This one just looks like a picture of Bumblebee's eye... (not that that's a bad thing, as Bumblebee is awesome, but still)

Its the Droid eye.

And the screen resolution is killing me... I really want the AMOLED or IPS in 960x540.....

Geez, the phone looks good and all, but it's such a blatant iPhone clone design wise.

I don't understand why other companies don't come up with decent phone designs on their own. Just hire an industrial design firm to whip something up like Apple does, it's not that hard.

Ahh. Thanks. I'm kinda rooting for this phone on Verizon. My OG droid is showing its age and I'm not impressed with any other phone coming to big red. I just hope they release this before they start introducing tiered 4g.

My only option is iPhone 5.. but what if I don't like its design?!

On second thought, 1080p is nice, but the quality of the iPhone's 720p is much higher.

Which would be nice, if my display wasn't 2560x1600
iPhone's 720p is pretty good quality, but it is nothing compared to that 1080p video. Trust me, I have taken 720p videos off of my aunt's iPhone 4 to watch on my computer, and the quality isn't anywhere close to that 1080p recording.

Same here, really hoping to get the Verizon version myself.

Most developers don't design apps for QHD yet. Also a QHD display is quite costly and harder to manufacture. I read a few reviews about the Droid Bionic and Atrix and a lot of people are commenting that they would prefer a lower resolution screen if it meant better quality and more accurate display of colors. Honestly, I can't even see the pixels on my EVO (4.3" @ 800x480) so although I was initially hoping for QHD myself, I was perfectly fine with 800x480 and the new Super AMOLED+ screen is quite an impressive improvement over the old one by having 50% more subpixels using a real-stripe matrix. Also don't forget, higher res = less FPS for games and videos.

FtL1776, is actually correct, it is the Droid eye but a very uncommon version of it that I particularly liked (as opposed to the typical red one). I liked my old avatar as well because it was actually from photoshoot done by a very good friend of mine and then massively photoshopped effects in. However, I had it for a while now and decided it was time to change for something a little more tech oriented and fitting for these forums. Thank you for noticing though. I like to think of it as the bionic eye.

PS: My friend totally understood and I made sure to let her know before the switch. She's going back to do another shoot soon and she's thinking of a bionic theme this time. You know what that means.

Yea, let's copy the Zune HD design instead. It's much much sexier :3

But in all seriousness, designs at this point are really going to converge on simplicity and function.

It's finally here folks. This phone has an official date of May 1st with starting launch in the UK. Hit the break for more details:

Samsung has just delivered a most welcome (and concrete) bit of news for British smartphone lovers. Its next do-it-all Android superphone will be available on May 1st in the United Kingdom. The Galaxy S II will emulate its predecessor by being made available "across all major networks and retailers." The press release promises a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, which indicates we're looking at the Exynos 4210 variant of this handset. We'll try to track down availability information for the rest of Europe, but at least Brits can now stop fretting about the delay / non-delay of this marquee phone's launch.

11th April 2011, London, UK – Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., today announces that its slimmest and lightest smartphone yet, the Samsung Galaxy S II (Model: GT-I9100), will be available in UK shops on 1st May 2011.
