AS5 versus Chill FactorIII and fan controller questions

Ok, I went and bought a fan controller: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811995075 and some new fans. I going to mount 2 of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835185060 in a push/pull on my CPU cooler. Which happens to be a Thermalright Venomous X RT. The fan that came with that cooler is only 50CFM and I am really hoping to get my temps down with the new fans. Both are 110CFM. So, the question I have in this area is in relation to hooking them up. I want to just hook them up to the controller and not the motherboard. Do I have to worry about getting a warning or the computer not booting since no fan will be attached to the mobo header?

The other thing is that I plan on reseating my cooler. I think I did everything right with it when I got it, but I am going to reseat it just to be on the safe side. I bought AS5 and their cleaner to remove the existing TIM. After purchasing the AS5 though, I've read quite a few negative comments about it here on the board. The TIM that Thermalright supplied with the cooler is labeled Chill FactorIII. Does anyone have an opinion on which is better? Am I getting spooked by comments here on the board for nothing, or is there a valid reason to stay away from the AS5?

Would appreciate any input on this as I'm planning on installing everything sometime tonight. Thanks

First off that fann controller is AMAZING!!
Second, if you do not have a fan plugged into the CPU fan header on the mobo it will throw a warning on start it...it will say CPU fan fail and want you to press F1. DO NOT PLUG THOSE FANS INTO MOBO!! you have a strong chanve to burn out the plug..witch inturn may cause problems with the rest of the board. in the instructions for the sunbeam cooler is discribs how to run the wires to your CPU fan header, then to the controler, then to the CPU fans so you can controll your CPU fans with it...or let the computers onboard cool n quiet thingy do it for you.
As for the thermal past I have never used chillfactor III but heard good things...as for AS5 dont belive the BS reviews you have seen, its good stuff, cheap and very avalible, and one of the easyer ones to work with for a noob to this kind of thing. Dont use the spred methods, you will trap air in the past and get hot pockets of air inbetween your Cooler/TIM/CPU negating some of the coolers ability to cool. use a pea sized dab in the center of the CPU, while seating the cooler to it Rotate or twist the cooler back and forth a few degree's while applying pressure to make sure the past has spread, then bolt her down. Also, You can use Rubbing Alch and lint free cloth to clean TIM, DO NOT LET THE TIM, TIM CLEANER OR RUBBING ALCH TOUCH ANYTHING BUT THE COOLER AND THE TOP OF THE HEAT PLATE ON CPU. you can damage parts if not carefull, but its easy. best of luck hope this helps

CFIII is a good paste, better than AS5 on tests I've conducted on a stock ASUS 4870, it's quite a few C better even after I let the AS5 cure for just over 100 hours (it's not 200, but still better than 0). AS5 is fine if you get it for free or if it's all you got, but today's modern pastes are better.

So before doing a thing, I ran prime for an hour. My max temp hit 78C. I then removed the Thermalright fan and installed the two Scythe fans. I also removed the rear Coolermaster fan that came with the case and put a 140mm Scythe fan in there. Then I hooked up the controller. I didn't bother with reseating the cooler for now.

After the changes, I ran prime again for an hour. My max temp hit 69C this time. So, upgrading the fans and installing the fan controller dropped my temps by 9C overall. I am pretty happy with that. The new fans are definitely louder, but they aren't overwhelming at full speed. At idle, I have them running at half speed and its barely a little louder than what I started out with.
