Good cooler for i7 860?

Thread Starter
ok guys, i'm finally wanting to overclock my cpu to 4ghz from 2.8ghz, as i think i'll see a healthy gain in games.

What low cost cooler do you think would be best for my i7 860?

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus. It's usually around 30 bucks. However, I got one from NCIX for 25 bucks. It's the best bang for your buck. You might want to consider your cooling soloution though. 4 ghz on a 1366 I7 demands slightly better cooling than what I mentioned, specially if you got a crappy chip that needs too much voltage.

I would recommend the more expensive Noctua D14, having used it myself It yielded me 70c on load when i overclocked my i7 860 to 4.4ghz

Welcome. Usually the bios auto OC option overestimates the voltages so you'll probably end up with higher temps. I recommend doing it manually unless you don't have patience for it.

i dont understand how can my hyper 212 + be so good, i never go pass 60 degree at 100% load at 4,6 ghz, peak at 60 degree and hover around 55-58 degree, and i dont even have push pull config and only 50% fan speed lmao, such an amazing cooler for 30 $. I think because its winter here and my antec 902 just have so good airflow, which helped alot too.

Edit: And i doubt ill exceed 70 degree at even 5,0 ghz lol, i see no point to buy 80$ air cooler, might as well spend 100 more and go water if spending that much
