[Anand] The OCZ Vertex 3 Review (120GB)

http://www.anandtech.com/show/4256/t...3-review-120gb

Anand finally finished his review of the retail 120GB Vertex 3 drive.

Quote:
What I have in my hands is retail 120GB Vertex 3 with what OCZ is calling its final, production worthy client firmware. The Vertex 3 Pro has been pushed back a bit as the controller/firmware still have to make it through more testing and validation.

Long good read.

This is a good move by OCZ, by clearly labeling IMFT chips with a suffix of .25 and .34 after the model number. It will force the hand of other SF based companies to do the same.

Write performance is a bit low. It actually did fairly well in the "real world" type scenarios like gaming even considering it was up against drives twice the capacity.

I'll stick with my C300 128GB. I was going to get the Vertex 3 120 but after seeing some reviews and some user's bench marks it not that much faster then the C300. As a matter a fact my C300 beat the V3 120 in 4k read and writes. Its only in Seq read and writes did it do better. Everything else my C300 scored better....

Anand should've included the C300 128GB. This is ultimately the 120GB V3's closest competitor. I'm torn between the 2. I need to get familiar with these benchmarks and figure out what really is 'real-world' performance.

I <3 Anandtech. Especially when it comes to graphics cards and SSD reviews.

Wasn't Anand putting out a new SSD compendium? I want to read it.

I recently got an OCZ 3, on the X58 UD7.

Im getting roughly 400mb/s read, and 280-300mb/s write. However other users are reporting 530/490, with a better sata3 driver (Marvell X58 are horrible )

So...with the native Sata III controller on the Intel P67 chipset...would I see the intended, nice performance if I buy the Vertex 3?

2600K | ASRock P67 Fatal1ty | 8GB DDR3 | OCZ Vertex 3 120GB | 5970 2GB | Forte | Lian Li P50

Thats the guys rig, and his results.

So about 550/490..... I'll live with that.

NB, stock settings on the HDDtune benchmark was showing ~350MB/s read, but that has a horrible test size IIRC. The file benchmark was at/above 500MB/s.
