Dell U3011 vs. Benq XL2410T

Thread Starter
I've got my shopping list narrowed down to these two monitors. I was originally about to order the dell u3011 right now but a friend told me about some advantages of the benq:

120hz
3d ready

My friend says the 120hz and faster response time is huge for gaming and i might get lag and tearing with only 60hz with the dell.

which one would u guys get? I mostly play games of all types including fps with some amateur video editing on the side. i imagine the dell has better colors and that would be great but i don't want the dell to lag and stutter

I would get the Dell b/c you're video editing. Don't worry about the Dell lagging...it can definitely handle gaming without a problem.

60hz is fine for a computer monitor. However if you want to watch fast action sport and movies a 120hz will benefit due to the image processed by the tv will provide you a smoother image.

However 120hz is not really faster response time. it just makes the incoming video signal smoother and reduce motion blur.

the benq is a tn and the dell is an ips, if you do some video editing the ips might be of some benifit (better colors and viewing angles) but personally i dont think you would really notice any tearing @ 60hz .. i played on 8ms response time and 2ms response (and on a 40 inch 60hz and 120hz), and i really couldn't tell the difference

IPS input lag is greatly over-exaggerated. I play on a U2711 (rated at 20-30ms input lag) and I personally don't notice it at all, even in fast paced FPS.

It's all about preference. If you prefer extremely high image quality (color accuracy/viewing angles/resolution) go for the Ultrasharp. If you prefer extremely smooth motion with minimal blurring, then the 120Hz is the better call.

If you have a Microcenter near by or any other comp/electronics retailer, I'd definitely recommend going to see IPS and 120Hz screens in person before you decide.

I have the XL2410T, and I also currently have the U2410 (soon to get the U2711)

This really is an issue because once you use a 120hz display you can't really go back to using a 60hz display. Its like using an SSD and then going back to a platter drive. On the other hand the same applies to using an IPS panel display and going back to TN. You can never have the best of both worlds. Overall I'd say that if you do a bit more than JUST gaming, get the dell. I find that despite the screen tearing I still prefer overall image quality.
