GPU Stuck at 100% Utilization - Page 2

Finally I found someone with the same problem. Hard to find something on the net if you don't really know what to search for. AMD support couldn't even help me. I've observed the GPU usage with AMD's System monitor and saw it go up to 100% while i was just reading on some website not even moving the mouse, seemingly totally random. Have a 5870 (factory-OC:875MHz/1225MHz) here, 2 screens, one VGA, one DVI, Windows 7 64-bit. I'll check the flash thing first but since it doesn't happen every day it might take some time to figure
Why is there no tool that lists programs running on/accessing the the graphics card..

A hint to get the GPU usage back to normal without rebooting is just removing the driver and using the one windows comes with.

Any results yet, fball992?

My GPU idles at 99% when i apply a OC.

The only way to set it at 0% again is openin Furmark and w8 5 secs then it downclock.

Try it

I have had the same problem with or without afterburner running, with or without overclocks applied.

The culprit seems to be the drivers from the research I have done. Some temporary fixes are to disable the display device in your device manager, and then enable it again.

If you search the forums hard enough, someone actually wrote a simple script that does this for you when the problem occurs.

I have crossfired 5870s and it only occurs on one of my cards at a time (has happened to both, but not at the same time before). Disable/Enable has fixed it every time. It's a bit of a hassle though, and it doesn't seem to effect the temps of the card when it's running at 99, so I have been mostly ignoring it and patiently waiting for driver updates.

Good luck.

I just saw in AMD GPU Clock Tool that UVD Status was "busy", after restarting the display adapter (thanks for that hint aesthetics1) it shows "idle". So it apparently is either Flash or some other Video thing going crazy. Or the driver.
This already helps alot, thank you all.

Just wanted to drop by and say since 11.5 everything is fine... well not everything, I'm quite frequently encountering mouse cursor corruption one one monitor but it's not that bad
