Two newb questions

Thread Starter
First question is: Why does a second graphics card only run at 4x?

Second Q is: What is the point of validating benchmark/CPU-Z results and what does that prove?

I apologize if my answers are out there, I did search google and stickies, so I might just suck at that.

Thanks in advance

Because 16x-4x is what the 870 chipset can accomodate. There is no splitting to 8x-8x on the 870 chipset.
You need 790X or 890GX for 8x-8x.
With 5750s it would not bottleneck anything however.

Validating CPU-Z benchmarks proves your overclock better than screenshots - screenshots are faked easily, these are not. I do not recommend overclocking on that motherboard though due to known case of VRM failures on 125W x4s and x6

Thanks xd. Are there motherboards that can accommodate 16x/16x? Is there an advantage to 8x/8x in some cases?

Also, thanks for your advice into my motherboard, I will look into that VRM issue to mentioned. I currently have mine OCed to 3.7GHz so I found that very interesting...

16x-16x is an advantage once you run HD 6970 CFX with big monitors. x4 will bottleneck above a 5770, but x8 is fine for pretty much all other scenarios. Look for a 790X chipset board, or 890GX chipset, for Crossfire 8x-8x.

Cool, thanks again xd. Do you think that, since my system is "stable", I would benefit from those MOS-C1 MOSFET heatsinks? I plan to upgrade CPU to an 8 core bulldozer when their price hits reasonable and a quality MOBO in the future but do you think they would do me any good in the mean time?

As stated the difference between 16x and 8x CF is a percent or two unless you are running dual GPU cards as well. For 16x/16x you are looking at the FX line of boards (790/890FX). Currently CF on your board would be 16x/4x as that is all your board supports. If you look at the slot itself only the first 1/4 of pins will be populated.

you can find motherboards to do 16x-16x also.

I did some redearch last night and saw the options for 16/16 mobos, and I did a little more reading about the northbridge and PCI and the correlation between the two. But my next question is this, Would it be beneficial for me to spend the $15 on VRM heatsinks?

It would not hurt to install these heatsinks BUT as xd indicated that board has trouble and is prone to failure when over-clocked due to its poor vrm quality. It says 125w compatible but that is at stock speeds and voltages. When you over-clock your cpu you will use more than 125w, which is what the vrms can't handle for a prolong period of time.
