Need help getting my i7 930 to 4.2 ghz stable.

So everything here is pretty much where I have my settings at except that my BLK is at 200 and my cpu vid is 1.4. Haven't had a chance to update those screenshots but all the other settings are the same.

So far I can run prime for about 10 min and then it reboots. I'm going to disable reboot on BSOD when I get home but in the meantime is there any setting here you'd recomend I tighten up?

what are your ram speeds? 1600mhz or 1333? I have xms3's as well and i couldn't overclock when i had the 1333 ram. I returned them for the 1600mhz one. if you do 4.2 ghz you can get your ram to run exactly 1600mhz

I have 1600 Mhz ram and I edited my post to show that my BLK is 200 not 191.

Take your vdroop off, then back the vcore down to 1.25v and up your vtt to +70mv and qpi to 1.25v. That should help you

my xms3 are 9-9-9-24. you could try loosening your ram timings to see if it's the ram. I don't know how EVGA bios are but with the gigabyte, my blk is 200x20 and i turn turbomode on, all it does is up the multiplier. my computer was more stable that way when i overclock.

Nice. I'll try those settings as soon as I get home. I tried updating the bios yesterday to 77 but I ended up having to go all the way back down to 54 since my computer wouldn't boot even at stock settings with that bios. Wouldn't even take my overclock at the exact same settings.

There WERE two new settings, IOH Clock skew and Tram or something on the memory, I had no idea what to set those to.

Best evga bios for overclocking so far is the 74. The 77 chews voltage on my board. Also i7s like to overclock on odd multipliers so dont use turbo mode.

I did that and it froze when loading windows.

I was barely able to boot into windows at under 1.4 on the vcore. Now prime 95 testing is giving a 101 error but aren't I maxed on voltage already?

So I got to the point to where it seems pretty stable. Upped vcore to 3.75 without vdroop and upped my qpl .25. All seems well and I was at 10 min of prime but my temps went up to 94 and I got scared and stopped it. Think I might need a pull fan on my h50 to cool it down a little more. In the meantime is there anything else I can do to lower my temps? Voltage tweak maybe?

Dude, just follow this guide by miahallen. It's way easy to follow, and is fairly failproof. It got my system stable to 4.4ghz easy. It goes a different route than most guides, which is why I think it works.
http://www.techreaction.net/2010/09/...nd-gulftown/3/
Took me maybe 2 hours to get a stable OC. He recommends Intel burntest or OCCT, but I personally used Linx, cuz if a system is Linx stable, it's stable with everything else
