PS3 fan CFM & voltage

Hi,

Any idea what voltage the fan connector is giving out? Also the possible cfm of the fan.

After 3.5 years of good constant use the PS3 is still in good working order and does everything we want. But I keep replacing the internal fan, and all the replacement fans are very poor quality. They all make too much noise, do not last very long and do a very poor job of cooling the PS3.

So I want to throw away the PS3 fan (now on my 3rd fan) and cut a hole in the side of the case and attach a 120mm PC fan like a Noctua NF-S12B or similar too the outside of the case to pull air out.

I feel PC fans (I feel) are better quality, possibly more cfm & defiantly quieter. And by pulling air directly from the side I will get better & faster airflow through the stock heat sink

a) I've already replace the thermal paste and clean it up
b) The PS3 always stands vertical

What does everyone think?

ah!

Well I think I've found one answer.

There is something on the market called the 'Whisper fan' with 19 cooling blades, sounds rather impressive but if Amazon is to be believed any low end PC case fan will out perform it.

This whisper fan runs at 2.6A, 2450RPM, 54.32d(b)A, 60 CFM

So a Noctua NF-P12 should work wonders at 92.3cfm & 19.8dB(A)

Has anyone else tried this?

You would just have to run source 12v in this case from power supply legs. PS3fan has three wires, red - 12v, black - ground, grey signal wire - up to 3v.
