E8400 Stuck @ 3.789GHz - Page 4

Thread Starter
I set my FSB Strap to 400, set the DRAM voltage to 2.1, slightly notched up fsb termination voltage, and set the NB to either 1.38 or 1.40 I can't remember which. It was the highest I go do before it turned red. So I'm back to a 1:1 ratio. Anyhow I am stable for 10 minutes of prime @ 434x9 3.9ghz. That is something I couldn't say before. I think increasing the NB is making the biggest difference. I will see where I can go from here.

The reason I recommended 10 minutes of the Small FFTs before was to determine the maximum temperatures.

Anyway, what is your DRAM Frequency right now and what are your timings?

I just booted up in 4Ghz and it feels fast, but the Windows Aero buggin out again. I feel like I'm getting close. My DRAM Frequency is 890Mhz when I am on 4GHz. I only tested prime @ 3.9Ghz 868Mhz DRAM. By putting the FSB Strap to 400 I have to run a 1:1 ratio unless I want to really overclock my ram, which I don't think it is capable of doing...?

I might try putting my vcore up 1 notch to see if I can do 4GHz stable. It's at 1.37 right now and temps shouldn't be a problem since they only get high when I am running prime.

When you say 890 MHz, are you talking about what CPU-Z says? Of course, I doubt it.

No of course not I am just being really specific. My bios reports the ram as 890Mhz and CPU-Z reports it as half that.

BTW how high is too high for the NB? I currently have it at 1.42 and it turned red. My mind is programmed to assume that is prrrrrrobably not too heallthy for the chip. I hope I am wrong?

Dammit I get an error in Prime after 2 minutes. If I can't get stable increasing the vcore, I fear I will be forced to start lowering the FSB again.

seems like there is a setting we are missing that is a little off... At the voltages you have, 4Ghz should be fairly easy. 1.42v is quite high for 445Fsb, or there abouts. I wouldn't worry about that voltage as far as over volting, but it seems high. Although if your running like 4 sticks of that RAM, that could be why. How many sticks do you have installed?

What is your PLL at now? Have you changed any other settings that we havn't discussed? GTL Ref? Any other settings?

In your BIOS, go to Advanced - CPU Config.: You can pretty much disable everything.

Also, in the BIOS page with your voltages and stuff, you see Ai Transaction Booster. Underneath it has 2 lines, the 2nd says LVL and has a bunch of numbers. What is yours and did you set it manually? It will probably range from 5-15 or something. I wonder if your Mobo set it manually too low or something. If your 1:1, you probably want it at 10 or above.

|I would look like this: LVL 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10. or whatever number is there.

Yes I have all the power saving features off. The transaction booster is set to auto (13 13 13 13 13 13 13 13)

My voltages currently look like this:

FSB STRAP: 400
VCore: 1.41250 (1.4 in CPU-Z)
GTL Reference: .63x
PLL Voltage: 1.6
FSB Termination Voltage: 1.34
DRam 2.14
NB: 1.42
SB: 1.1
PCI-E: 1.5

I think I am stable at 3.915GHz with these settings.
