I would like to determine the most powerful gpu setup at a mid range price level.Better said the gpu setup which surpasses their single successor in SLI.

Since the GTX 570 SLI and the AMD 6950 SLI are the perfect candidates for my trial I want to compare them.

The winner will be declared judging by

1.)Price
2.)Overclockability
3.)Heat
4.)Overall performance level
5.)Stability
6.)Comparsion to both of their successors(GTX 580, AMD 6970) Single and SLI
7.)Features
8.)Benchmarking

Aaaalright

AMD 6950

1.)In my area they are at least 120€/171$ cheaper than 2x570´s

2.)I myself have never had any experience with AMD
cards so I am counting on you guys to add your knowledge to that matter.
Still to me that is the most important factor of all and of course heat and stability go hand in hand with it.

3.)In a review of Motherboards.org I watched a comparison between the 6950 CF and the 560 SLI ...it was clearly stated that the 6950´s run very hot.

4.)This is a very important factor and is very hard to roughly decide.
http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/g...tx-500-sli/19/
Judging by this link both cards sometimes exceed one another but keep in mind that most of the time the 6950´s only beat the 570´s at a higher resolution which is most likely a result of their superior VRAM amount.
But due to new Catalyst drivers the 6950´s have gained more performance so here too add your oppinions and experiences.

5.)Since the cards run hot I will just assume that stability in the higher overclocking range on stock cooling won´t be that great.

6.) Of course the 6950 CF setup exceeds its successor the 6970 by at least 30% ....but vs a 6970 CF setup the odds change of course.

7.)No Physx support is of course the most frustrating factor about AMD even more since games start to use it more and more , still multiple Mini display ports, and other AMD features drive the card right up top again , DX11 of course.

8.) I expect all owners to post their various results

GTX 570

1.)Like already mentioned above a 570 SLI setup would be 170$ more expensive compared to 6950´s in my country.

2.)Like almost all Nvidia cards the overclockability is great ...and the achievment of a 1 GHZ core is possible which is very positive.

3.)Due to the Vapor Chamber design at a fair fan setting even at max overclock the card should deliver reasonable temps.

4.)Again this is a very difficult decision so I am counting on your experiences and oppinions to determine that factor.

5.)I have only heard of very view that actually had stibility issiues with the cards.

6.)Yes, a SLI 570 setup exceeds the GTX 580 by far.

7.)Physx of course, and DX11 .

8.)Compared to the 6950´s results it sometimes has inferior and sometimes superior benchmark performance.

So I just set up some guide lines for the discussion to begin
The most decisive factors in my oppinion are

the 2 GB VRAM of the 6950´s and the Physx support of the 570´s ..
in terms of performance, overclocking ability, heat ,features etc....use the above mentioned points as starting point^^

Let´s find the better cards

Wrong on so many levels.

Price factor.
You should use the 560 TI.

It's not even debatable because of the unlock capabilities of the 6950, which gives you 570/6970 performance at a price cheaper than both the 570 and 6970 set ups.

570's and 6950's are in no way shape or form mid range price level - they are upper range video cards - mid range is the $150 - $200 range, most people cannot justify spending $300+ on a single GPU for their system...

Not trying to crush your review, just wanting to correct that small notion that they are "mid range"

I have a non-ref 6950 2GB 800/1250, so it runs about 20C cooler, but can't be shader unlocked/flashed to 6970

At default voltage of 1.1V, I can run about 900/1520, in BFBC2 @ 840/1350 w/%50 fan, the high temp today was 67C

At 1.206V I run 950/1520, w/55% fan temps in GTA4 are about 62C

For awhile I was using 1.312V 985/1520 (but apparently that in the danger zone, especially on air) the temps in FURMARK and 100% fan held about 84C

And it idles at about 37C

I hope to CF it, and they scale great and will fly, and once I get some bigger processor to go with them, they will be unstoppable

Sry I just speculated on the 6950 because I have no experience on AMD cards so excuse me if it did not apply to your standards.

What now?

6950 CF seems to be the most lucrative option right now.
Price is better than 570 SLI and the performance difference fluctuates.

Lack of Physx is frustrating but not devistating.
The 560 TI loses terribly against the 6950 CF.

The unlock ability of the 6950 also makes it the king in SLI I think... don´t you?
6970 CF for the price of 6950 with just a simple bios flash lol?
That is not possible with the 570.

So 6950 CF or 570 SLI?

Should be interesting to see the results as I will be doing GTX 570 SLI as I wait for the 28nm cards later this year.

No premise to buying a card other than the GTX 570 is far easier for me to get on special and the Twin Frozr II range for either card are great. Never really thought much of MSI but there cards are great.

Performance varies I have seen that proved many times in benchmarking on several sites. But at the end of the day either card in their respective scalable performance mode is a great choice.

Why isn´t your card unable to be unlocked to a 6970?
Because it is non reference? should be working with any 6950 though?

So according to the bruce lee mod 6950 CF vs 570 SLI is not even a competition due to the 6950´s unlock ability to a 6970.

So that clearly delcares the 6590 CF the winner over a 570 SLI setup according to him.

I would like to see some other oppinions and experiences!

Price price price.

You get the perf of a 570/6970 with an unlockable 6950.
If you couldn't unlock the 6950 then of course the 570 is the clear cut winner.

But when it come to dual cards, the 6950 has been shown to keep up and on occasion pass the sli 570 due the superior scaling.

I still don't understand why you're comparing cards that are in completely different price brackets.
