im a crysis 1 n00b

i just bought it for $7.50 yesterday. started playing in hard difficulty and it is harder than expected, mainly due to being used to crysis2 controls, but i digress

so most likely i wont play it more than once all the way through. should i stay with the vanilla version the first time around, or apply some visual mods?

please recommend me some performance mods... and please dont just link to that 50 page tweaking guide

I had a blast playing the campaign the first time around. I would gladly do it again. If you're curious, apply the texture mods, it really can't hurt your experience...

This is the mod you want

post #8 of 12

Here are some tweaks I suggest you make:

Quote:

FIRST: open the console and type in cl_bob = 0, or go into the game options menu and turn the slider for "Weapon Inertia" all the way down.

The following lets you bind suit modes to keys/buttons so you don't have to use the mouse wheel. It makes the suit more accessible and lets your perform advanced tricks.
Quote:
<action name="defensemode" onPress="1">
<key name="mouse5"/>
</action>

<action name="speedmode" onPress="1">
<key name="mouse4"/>
</action>

<action name="strengthmode" onPress="1">
<key name="v"/>
</action>
In C:\\Users\\Administrator\\Documents\\My Games\\Crysis_WARHEAD\\Profiles\\default\\actionma ps.xml
Under
Quote:
<actionmap name="player" version="19">
I chose to bind the suit modes to mouse5,4 and "v." You can choose other keys or mouse buttons!

AND

The following changes your suit settings to match what they're set to in the multiplayer.

Quote:
-- Low health effect duration and health threshold
ai_RODLowHealthMercyTime = 1.5
g_playerLowHealthThreshold = 20
g_playerLowHealthThreshold2 = 30

-- AI voice readability
ai_UseAlternativeReadability = 0

-- Player Health/Energy/Suit
g_suitCloakEnergyDrainAdjuster = 1
g_suitRecoilEnergyCost = 3
g_suitSpeedEnergyConsumption = 50
g_suitSpeedMult = .35

g_suitArmorHealthValue = 100.0
g_playerSuitArmorModeHealthRegenTime = 10
g_playerSuitArmorModeHealthRegenTimeMoving = 15
g_playerSuitHealthRegenTime = 20
g_playerSuitHealthRegenTimeMoving = 27
g_playerSuitHealthRegenDelay = 2.5

g_playerSuitEnergyRechargeTimeArmor = 6
g_playerSuitEnergyRechargeTimeArmorMoving = 7
g_playerSuitEnergyRechargeTime = 10
g_playerSuitEnergyRechargeDelay = 0

g_playerHealthValue = 100.0
in C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Electronic Arts\\Crytek\\Crysis WARHEAD\\Game\\config\\diff_xxxx.cfg
there are 4 difficultly so you will have to copy this into each file.

Also... I think Crysis' FOV (60) is way too low, and should be set to cl_fov 80 at least.

Throw in -devmode on the exe, press F1 in game and you get this (not necessary, but it is fun!)

Most importantly, I HIGHLY recommend that you skip to 1:57 in this video to learn how to strafe jump. It's not hard at all, and my favorite part about it is that the key presses feel so natural. It's fun to do it.
