6950 overclock voltage limits?

Thread Starter
Hey everyone got a Gigabyte 2GB 6950 today unlocked the shaders, voltage+core clock. Then started overclocking it

stock voltage 1.100
stock core clock 800
stock memory 1250

first stable oc

voltage 1.110
core 925
memory 1425

second stable oc

voltage 1.120
core 970
memory 1500

Basically I'm wondering if this looks okay and if the voltage is safe for 24/7 use on the second overclock?

Temps are no issue according to afterburner, which I hope has accurate readings?

Thanks for answers!

Supposed to be locked @1.35v, but you can try going higher and see if it works.

And the 'second stable oc' should be OK for 24/7, as long as you keep the temps low.

Stock 6970 voltage is 1.175

No reason why 1.120 shouldn't be fine for 24/7

So the 6950 can actually handle the same voltage as the 6970?

Not so sure heard of a few failures when I was searching the forums earlier when unlocking, and was recommended to go with shader unlock and overclock thought it would be safer.

There are mixed views on unlocking 6950 to 6970 for sure.

This is core voltage.

There is an unproven rumor floating around that you can damage the memory of a 6950 by flashing it to a 6970 due to the 0.1v difference in memory volts.

Minor core voltage increments have no impact on anything. People have been voltmodding for ages.

If I had a GTX 465 who's voltage I changed from 0.95 to 1.087, there is no reason whatsoever that you'll get any negative effects by raising the voltage 0.010

It's not the memory. Some ppl have flawed shaders to begin with, or compounded by really poorly binned memory.

I'm using 1.2V to get 947/1520 stable in GTA4

In crysis Warhead I would have to turn it to 940 probably

And about the same or maybe 935 @1.2V in furmark

This is the 1st GPU I ever added volts to , and for some reason I thought 1.3V was common.

I ran a 990/~1450? @1.4V (very dangerous I think now), I ran furmark for 40min, It artifacted for 3-5 seconds, then ran normal until I stopped it. temps were up in the high 80s with full fan (not a ref., no blower, runs cooler).

But then again, the max power draw according to one furmark test was ~143Amps*1.4V=200W which is what their listed max is.

The highest I ever saw when I was trying that in games(for 1-2 days, resetting voltages in between) was crysis warhead, ~90A*1.4V=126W

Furmark is a tdp throttled app so you can't use it to judge power draw. Max power draw could be as high as 250w for unlocked and clocked like hell cards.
