Am I screwed? - Page 3

After benching, I just let my stuff air dry when it is wet. Just make sure it is 100% dry.

Only ever killed 1 board, but think that was a different issue.

If the motherboard is fried, should I just try and salvage the CPU by putting it in a bag of rice? (works pretty well for other electronics)

You guys make this stuff out to be too fragile. I've used my classified with a puddle of water in the socket. It wouldn't overclock but it still powered on and even ran vantage. After taking the cpu out, I let the water pour out of the socket then dried it with the heat gun. Afterwords, I let it sit for a day or two and then it fired up and worked like a charm. The cpu has spots on it now and the pins in the socket are discolored, but works as good as when I got it.

Yea, ok, what Mikecdm said. CPUs are very strong little buggers. A little arti-clean liquid isn't going to do anything as long as you let it evaporate. Same thing for the motherboard, that's not going to kill it.
During the first assembly of my loop (during the leak test), every fitting except for two leaked EVERYWHERE. Inside the socket, inside my fans, inside the PCI-E slots, everywhere. I took it apart and set everything out indoors on a table for a week, re-assembled it, this time it didn't leak, works fine since then.

Really, don't worry about it as long as it's evaporated.

Did the Classified OC after you dried it out?

Yes, I froze the chip again and hit 249 bclk on the classified and over 5.2ghz on my 920.

I would get a can of the non-Chlorinated brake cleaner, turn the board face down [holding it up in the air] and flush the socket clean.
Gravity will work for you and the cleaner shouldn't leave a residue.
I cleaned thermal compound off the pins off an AMD 940 this way.
Still works great.
Give it an hour or so to dry.

I don't have any non chlorinated brake cleaner; would canned air be good?

It's been sitting in front of the fan set at 2/4 speed for 24 hours as well as 3 hours in the sun.

Is it safe to use now?
