Official word from Samsung's Finnish site informs us that local owners of its Galaxy S smartphone will be receiving their Gingerbread fix around the middle of this month. Less direct, but still pretty reliable, confirmation of this comes from UK carrier Three, who promises the same OS version will be arriving to its users of the handset "in a couple of weeks."

I already have GB on my £100 droid phone so I can't get excited about a more expensive phone getting it.

Nice upgrade though I suppose.

Woooooooooohooooooo.

But with all those carriers (and the crappy kies) it will probably not be mid-april for a lot of people. Crossing fingers that I am not going to be on of them this time.

Have google been cracking the whip on manufacturers? Sony Ericsson and now Samsung giving phones Gingerbread. It is about time really.

What about the CDMA Galaxy S phones (SCH-I500)?

This. I've had it on my Captivate for weeks now. I'm excited for the XDA devs to get a hold of the final source code because CM7 has a few bugs that are kind of annoying but I can't really complain since it is just a release candidate. Probably going to go back to Cognition for a while since I know this is coming

CM7, yes
but having a 1008 phone with a huge risk of brickign even with a jig puts me off
even if I did flash CM7
I would prefer a stable ROM for day to day basis as I rely on my phone for lots of things nowadays
a non-stable ROM with bugs cannot cut it for me
