Also, welcome to OCN!
Thanks ! The Rampage 2 is from 2008, I figured it was getting old. I don't know jack about MB's, so I'll take your word on that.

This has to the most active forum I've every joined for PC enthusiasts You guys are quick. How come no one seems to like the new GTX590? Seems you guys want to SLI instead of single card it? Why?

temps would be fine.. comes down to personal preference i guess.
yes, two 580s really are better than one 590.. but not by the biggest margin or anything to write home about.

edit: people are sort of against the 590 due to the horror stories of them "blowing up" or "exploding" and "little headroom for overclocking".. last i heard the vrm exploding issue was/is getting fixed.
i think it's a great card personally, but preference would have me take two 580s

DX10 iirc.

With that setup just do some oc'ing on the ram and your cpu and throw a 580 in there.

Personally in your case before I bought all new gear I would look into a triple monitor setup. Possibly 3d if you are into that. I am not. But the 120hz monitors would be better in fast paced environment if you can push the fps to do it.

So slap 2 580's in there and 3 monitors on the desk play in the bios and call it a day.

I would hesitate about the 590's unless you plan to run them stock and well what fun is that. The 6990 would be the better choice if you are deadset on dual gpu card. This is coming from someone that has been nvidia since my first video card. An old agp card. Still have it somewhere.

You can use the GTX 590 if you want, but it's been known to destroy itself if you OC too far. That's why most prefer dual 580's because they overclock like beasts, and even stock are more powerful than a 590.

Thanks for the tip, I'm on a single 27 and have had dual monitors running before but just hate the bezzel in the middle. I agree 3 monitors are cool, just not for me, sticking to the single for now.

Oh yea and I got a Thermaltake V1 cooling it. I don't know if that's still a good fan or not. Going back and rep+ many of you. If I go with sli gtx580, what brand do you guys like? I prefer EVGA but again am just starting to learn about this stuff.

Yeah the bezel especially if it is large can get distracting sometimes. With one 27" guessing 1920x1080 a 580 with even some oc on it will drive it nicely. I have a 1080 monitor and the 570 drives all the games I play at max np. Just stepped up to 2 of them but that was more for the folding/ fun benching rather than the wow I really need something more.

EVGA as the warranty is there as long as own it.

But is it a $250 - $300 difference in performance? Coz that's the difference in price between GTX 590 and 2 GTX 580s. SLI 580s do beat a GTX 590, but it's definitely not a budget-minded alternative.
