Is GTX 580 SLI enough for 2650x1600

Just got a new Dell U3011 and considering picking up another GTX580 for SLI. Will 580 SLI be enough to max any game out in max quality with AA on 2650x1600 resolution? Or should I be looking into Tri-SLI?

I think rather than GPU processing power upgrade I would be looking at getting more VRAM for your res. If possible I would investigate how much it would cost you to sell your current 580 and get either one or two of the Palit 3GB versions.

If that is not an option then I would only consider SLI 1.5GB 580s and not Tri SLI 1.5GB 580s, because at your res more than 2 580s will not really let you do anything you can't do with 2 580s because your bottleneck would definitely be VRAM and not GPU processing power.

u should be able to max out any games to this day with a 580... can't think one that can't, on 1080p, so sli should be able to do 2 times that resolution just fine... dual gpu scaling is quite good from my experience, of course, except for those stupid games that temporary doesn't support sli

1080p is approximately 2 million pixels, 1600p is approximately 4 million pixels. That's alot of frame to buffer, VRAM will be your limiting factor.

Hmm, I see. What if I got one Palit GTX 580 3GB to go with my regular GTX 580. Are they compatible in SLI and would that work well?

It wouldn't help. It only goes by the smallest card's vram. Same with regular ram. If I put a 256mb stick and a 2gb stick into slots (hypothetically, this can't really be done), Ill only have 512 (2x256).

Same is true with video cards.

Then will (1) Palit GTX 580 3GB beat out (2) regular GTX 580 SLI on 1600p?

Yea if you can only afford one right now then I would make it a 3GB and then add another when possible. I can't speak from experience but SLI 3GB 580s should give you a very good gaming experience at 2560x1600.
